Lita Ford covered this song on her album "Stiletto" in 1990. She kept the same feel but at the same time made it unmistakably her sound. There's an unconfirmed story going around that Alice Cooper heard her perform it one night at a concert, and later, when he saw her backstage, said, "That's your song now."

My rookie year was 1982 in Texas, I retired in 2016 in Nottingham, England from the vice unit. You don't get thicker skin you get thinner skinned. I can't watch this without getting a lump in my throat. You go to too many of these and get 100s of memories you wish someone else had. It never changed, you hear of men getting abused but I can honestly say I never saw it. Not once. At the end when he cuddles her, you feel like you want to protect all of them and make it better, but you can’t. That's what I see at the end. Great that you've done this reaction. 🍻

Alice Cooper has tons of killer songs that you can enjoy as stand-alone stories. But if you REALLY want to enjoy Alice, you need to jump in the deep end headfirst and start listening to full albums. You will find a LOT of his songs are in the context of a larger story line (like this song). I am pretty sure that he has more concept & theme albums than any one else, and some stories carry across multiple albums. He also does a lot of moral story lines. When playing live, this song sets up Alice (the character) as a villain that will eventually pay for his sins.
@TheodoreWeiser2 ай бұрын
I always thought that Alice's willingness to portray himself as the monster by changing the lyrics to first-person in this video was courageous in a way. Doing so increases (I think) the emotional impact of the performance. Fyi, Alice has released a bunch of live concert videos over the years, but i think this one (Alice Cooper Trashes The World) is my favorite. I especially like the part where Alice, dressed in typical 80s rocker garb, is dragged off the stage, and the makeup and stuff are forcibly added to him before shoving him back on the stage. Good stuff

I’ve been listening to this album since it came out and I love it. It’s only recently though that I’ve come to understand the meaning behind the song in context of the album. I’ve always thought of this as a man singing about his woman or women in general, but it’s actually seen through the eyes of a child - I never realized that. The whole album is fantastic. And some of his biggest hits are ballads - “You and Me”, “How You Gonna See Me Now?”, “I Never Cry”, to name a few.

I have a slightly different interpretation of the album, but I totally agree this is part of the larger story, which seems to get overlooked a lot

Everytime I've seen Alice back to the 70s, at the end of this song, the girl (his real wife) raises up and cuts his throat or stabs him. A more fitting end. Some radio stations in the US banned the song because they thought it was about the menstrual cycle although I think Alice was using that as a metaphor for domestic violence as the lyrics tell us Alice in real life is the complete opposite of his stage character and has set up youth centers for art and after he managed to get himself of alcohol abuse to save his marriage has gone on to help other stars with their substance abuse.
