This song was written by Taylor and her boyfriend Joe. And I truly believe it is about their relationship. To me, "sweet nothing" is being describe as the ordinary little things in a relationship that matters a lot. These are the things that are not audacious but they have a great value. My favorite line is "all you ever wanted from me was sweet nothing" which for me means that I don't have to be burdened to be this or that, I just have to be me when I'm with you. I don't have to be anxious of what you expect me to be. I can be at peace. ❤️

i also cried when i heard the last line of the bridge. and it was such a sudden cry too. one second my eyes were dry, the next, there were tears streaming down my face. it was startling 😂 also on the first line when she said "i spy with my little tired eyes", i take that as the protagonist feels weary and exhausted by all the things she has to face outside, and not because of a lack of sleep. but a lack of sleep makes sense too now that i think about it

Hey!! I love your videos. I agree with the negative connotations that «industry disruptors and soul deconstructors» that you mentioned, still I view the negativity coming from irony. In this day and age «deconstructing» is very popular, deconstructing ourselves, our opinions, being kind of revolutionary, as also inferred in «industry disruptors», everything should be thought of and viewed in a new way, but it ends up not being genuine, as you said, some things cannot be taken apart. So I think, in hand with what you were saying, the protagonist is ironically speaking about these three ideas «industry disruptors, soul deconstractors, smooth....», as it is some peoples brands and products. Sorry if I didn't make any sense, English is not my first language

I want to ask you something, I did a shallow research on midnight rain about what people would think about who "midnight rain" is about, for me it is really interesting because upon hearing it I got the idea it was about any boyfriend she may have had before getting famous, that idea just makes a lot of sense for me, but none of the theories I've seen have addressed it that way, I wanna know your take on that topic since you seem so smart and always catch subtle details in the lyrics that at least for me tend to make a lot of sense, think I'm gonna put this comment in your videos to increase the likelihood of you seeing it. @@helloworld441 There are three things, 1st, second verse, "and the life I gave away" referring to; "shiny family holiday peppermint candy". 2nd, "and he never thinks of me, except when I'm on TV" which gives off the idea he is not famous. 3rd, "My town was a wasteland", why talk of the time where she was in her town, she was not famous, therefore, not in a relationship with him

hello! i answered your comment on my "bejeweled" reaction but will repost it here as well 😊 --- hi! 😊 i agree with you, i do think that "midnight rain" is referring to a love interest the protagonist had before the fame. when she mentions "her town" in the lyrics i interpret that as her hometown. i've seen theories where ppl link this song to taylor's famous former loves and while everyone is of course entitled to their own opinion and interpretation, for me i don't think it's referring to any famous former love. thank you for your comment! ✨
