Frontiers Music Srl is thrilled to announce the return of Sweet Oblivion, the musical project centered around revered vocalist Geoff Tate. The new album, "Relentless" is produced by Aldo Lonobile (Secret Sphere, Archon Angel, Timo Tolkii's Avalon) and will be released on April 9, 2021.
"Relentless" is the hotly anticipated sophomore album from the new metal project Sweet Oblivion, which showcases former Queensrÿche vocalist Geoff Tate. Conceived, overseen, and A&R'ed by Serafino Perugino, President and A&R director of Frontiers Records, the project sees Tate returning to a musical style he is revered for. The self-titled debut album caused quite a stir in the international hard rock and metal scene since it brought Tate back to a musical landscape akin to the sound of the stone cold classic metal albums he released with Queensrÿche during the ‘80s. But what made the album work so well was that instead of being a simple throwback, other different musical influences were thrown into the mix, allowing fans to hear Tate in a simultaneously familiar and new musical setting.
While the production and main songwriting on the previous record were handled by Simone Mularoni of DGM, this time the production was instead handled by his fellow Italian metal maestro Aldo Lonobile (Secret Sphere, Timo Tolkki's Avalon, Archon Angel).
Not only does Aldo have producution and songwriting credits on the album, he also features on guitar. Other musicians appearing on the album include Michele Sanna on drums, Luigi Andreone on bass, and Antonio Agate on keyboards.
This time around, Tate is more involved in the songwriting and asked Aldo to draft a very special song for him, which he would ultimately sing in Italian. The song, 'Aria', also features guitars from Walter Cianciusi and Dario Parente, who are now in the Operation: Mindcrime live band with Tate.
"I have been spending more and more time in Italy over the last few years and the people and culture have captured my heart. I truly enjoyed working with my Italian counterparts to create this classic metal album," says Tate.
Musically, this album showcases the great songwriting and performing talents of Tate, Lonobile and his cast of musicians and also marks a very welcomed return for Tate to a style that he made famous along with his former band.
Fans of Tate’s work in Queensryche’s early days and of the previous Sweet Oblivion record will not want to miss this!
Line-up:
Geoff Tate - Vocals
Aldo Lonobile - Guitars
Luigi Andreone - Bass
Antonio Agate - Keys
Michele Sanna - Drums

@@subtegral No I've heard all those album. The debut from Sweet Oblivion was amazing! I just think this single is better. And when it comes to Frequency Unknown & Q2K, I find them to be extremely boring. I don't mind that they are different, but the songeriting is very uninspiring - Not bad, but not good. The Mindcrime trilogy is horseshit though. An absolute disgrace to Geoff Tate's legacy. The musicians he hired made half-assed efforts as well 😳

Q2K and Tribe had some good ideas here and there. Too bad I can't seem to find anything good on literally anything else Tate has been involved in since that time period. At least Todd La Torre puts actual effort into his work with QR in regards to writing, performance, etc. Who would have thought the cover singer is actually more listenable than the original?

I'll save you some money - the album is mediocre. If you want the Mindcrime / Empire style done better, I recommend checking out everything from Lance King's various projects to Shadow Gallery's Digital Ghosts, as well as Todd La Torre's work with the current QR. There's plenty of stuff out there that does it well...Sweet Oblivion ain't one of them.

Tate should go take a songwriting class with Todd La Torre or maybe his old bandmate Michael Wilton. Maybe he'd actually learn something about what it takes to bring back the Empire sound...cause Sweet Oblivion ain't it.

I have to say I'm a little bit disappointed The melody is a little bit lacklustre and the lyrics for me don't have a thought behind for them. Dont get me wrong I love most everything that Geoff does and he will always be an icon in my eyes. I'd like to see a Geoff Tate and a Dean Wells Music collaboration.

Well you didnt write the lyrics so they obviously wouldnt have any thought behind them for you. Just because you cant relate to them doesnt mean there was no thought behind them.. I'm sure they mean a lot to Geoff.

yes very true@@cosplayboundlive but i dont think Geoff had much to do with the writing as it states in the production credits. But i have known to be wrong before. Anyway it's just great to hear his voice again. 🤘

It doesn't matter who Tate writes with. The writer can't overcome Tate's obvious vocal limitations. You could have the best melody in the world that a 1994 Tate would have nailed but today's Tate would just sound like he needs a nap and some Bingo.
