Sweet Potato Harvest in New England | Growing in a Raised Bed

Frost is coming soon, so it's time to harvest the sweet potatoes! Connecticut doesn't have the long hot summers that sweet potatoes love, but it's still possible to get a nice harvest. Today I'm harvesting sweet potatoes from one raised bed - come hang out with me in the garden to see what we get!

I'm glad I found your channel. The videos by "experts" usually show the perfect world. But I'm a newer gardener (it's also my second year growing sweet potatoes), and I appreciate being able to follow along with someone closer to my level of experience.

They are so good, and actually pretty easy! I grew them last year on a whim and I was pleasantly surprised, so this year I expanded how many I grew.

Good job Jennifer. God has blessed you with a nice harvest. This was my first year trying to grow sweet potatoes and I got them in way too late. Only a few very tiny ones started form. But I lived and learned and will know better next year. This was my first year gardening all together in a very long time and God blessed me with a great harvest of most things. It was definitely a blessing! They all got used in some way - most were eaten, and some were used to make slips for this year’s sweet potato crop.

Maybe the soil is too compact...add some things like wood chips and peet moss to loosen it up... Ppl also get bigger-sized potatoes that way...I've noticed

This soil is definitely nice and fluffy, but it is possible that it’s not deep enough since it’s a new raised bed and there was some settling - so I would imagine that could have the same effect on the sweet potatoes. I think I’ll add a few more inches of compost next year and see if that helps. Thanks for watching! 😊
