Such lovely melodies. I’m learning how to play this with my harmonica band and perform in an old folks home, I can imagine the smiles and memories we will be bringing to them! Thanks for sharing the video

AWW my Nanna sang me to sleep with that chorus. Beautiful to hear the verse some 6 decades on. x

My great great grandmother’s name is Rose and I just learned that her husband used to sing this to her when they were courting in England. I looked it up and found your video. It’s lovely! Thank you!

That is a very sweet sentiment to share, my name is also Rose, my Grandfather would sing me this song when I was a child and I looked it up as well. Thank you for uploading it to KZbin!

I found a handwritten copy of this from a relative. She wrote this in 1903. I love the attitude it captures from back in the day!

KZbin carries two TV-appearances of Maude Nugent, the American composer of Brooklyn, NY, of Sweet Rosy O'Grady, one with Milton Berle, and one with Ed Sullivan. On both occasions, she sang only the chorus.

Had no idea this had verses to it and in a different timing too (4/4). The chorus in 3/4 is the only part I have ever heard.

There is a version in which the verse tune is arranged in 3/4 time. Here's an example of it with an added descant played on an old Wurlitzer band organ: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZSQp51jiJd7mac Starts at 2:33

This is so sweet! Thank you! I'm featuring this song in my historical fiction novel. I have a character that whistles it.

Very good job! Well done. I came here from unholy three, Lon Chaney sound version, doing his bit with the puppet at the beginning with this song.

In the second verse you sang"...the good old summertime..." while the text shows "...the golden summertime..." Nevertheless, this is one of my very favorite 19th-century songs. I find it rather remarkable that the chorus conveys such emotion in that the melody consists only of five tones (plus one sharped).

Oh, come on now. Every generation says that, like a broken record. Try to find current assets that we didn't have 'back in the day'. I recently discovered Post Malone, and was awestruck!! Change is the only constant. Live a little ❤

@@dreamsicleblues yes i know it a broken record statement also in order for me to have nostalgia id have to be 128 at least but assuming i listened to this as a young adult or teenager id be around 145 i meant it as a a sarcastic note about how people have been the same every generation but thats all semantics
