I'm 60 and I swear the 70's produced the best band music ever! I didn't know that at the time of course thinking it would just keep getting better and better. I'd say around the mid-80's the "decline" was in full swing. The Sweet went from Archie type music to Glam Rock and were a fav of mine as a teen. Only 1 band member still alive - wow.
@JoinTheProgress2 жыл бұрын
1990 and on was the decline, there've actually been videos about how measurable it was. In 1989 my friends and I were very excited about the 90's thinking it was going to be a technological miracle, with astounding production quality and sounds, coupled with sheer talents that the world could hardly imagine; instead the exact opposite happened...rap and grunge were forced through as the industry standards due to how cheap they were both to produce and how the talents weren't nearly as expensive (because they had so much less talent). Vocal skill sets, instrumental skills, compositional skills...ALL went right down the toilet for cheaper-everything. They sold it to the kids, the kids bought it, and music history was permanently altered. There have been *some* hints of change more recently, but they're still not "the standard" that there once was in the commercial arena. They're still all on the side while commercial music is all computer generated and computer honed (such as for vocals, no one even needs to really be able to sing any more, with very few exceptions). And lyrics are all garbage now compared to the poetry of our time. Polyphia is an exception to the return of the skill sets. And very little positive, upbeat and fun stuff like Sweet (who are also all talented musicians) exists any longer. To end on a positive, kids ARE discovering the old music. I know a 19 year old who listens to a lot of 60's and 70's music. He was also home-schooled which I find interesting.
@mandyedavis79784 жыл бұрын
Wow how good did Steve Priest look in guyliner I was only 5 in 72 so my teenage years were spent listening to the New Romantic groups, I wish the Sweet had been around a decade later, no doubt I would of had a poster of them on my bedroom wall and Steve would of been my favourite! Rest in Peace.

Sweet! one of the most underrated bands of all time! As someone who's loved them for years and years I feel like I can preach how underrated they were all day, but all you can do is just dive into their discography. They were versatile!

Here we go again: the commercially most successful Bristish Glam Rock band of the 70es who gave the world a whole series of Rock anthems is "underrated"? By whom?
@vic.smittie.56682 жыл бұрын
Surely not underrated! 😳

@@captainkenzie6873 Not a native English speaker, I would be grateful (or is it "I will be grateful"?) if you could be so kind to give me a clue. Always happy to learn. Then I will be looking forward to experiencing your point of view on the "underrated" case. Thank you.

Out of all sweets songs and theres many, I gotta say this is my favourite. Even 5 decades later it would still go down great in pubs and clubs and esp house partys

Graham - you're probably not far from the truth there.......I went to their concert in Hamilton, NZ, and the crowd booed them...but they were so far ahead of their time...they were fantastic, and they led the path to the glam bands that followed - absolutely no doubt about that.

Sweet owed quite a lot to Bowie (blockbuster- Jean Jeanie) Slade (Fox on the run) Queen - ( love is like oxygen) they were quite derivative- this one is their most original

They broke the mold when they formed sweet, simply fantastic and stand the test of time. Wig wam bam was my first chart favourite as a tiny little girl of about four years old, I remember singing it a lot and it stuck in my head forever.

I absolutely loved these guys back in the 70's. I wanted my hair cut into the same style as Brian - I'm 58 now and I've finally achieved it! Don't know why the hairdresser couldn't do it back then but hey, better late than never. RIP Steve Priest - you, Brian, Andy and Mick brought some sunshine into the dreary days of the 70's when we had power cuts and our parents were working a 3 day week!

@@lottalove2449 Like Brian's yes - with the fringe and the angled feathering down the sides to the front. There are a lot of women who have had that cut for a few years now - it was kickstarted again by Jennifer Aniston from Friends!
