i have quite literally never used resin in my life, any tips for someone like me who wants to try it out? like where to buy, how much to buy, etc
@SweetArtCrafts4 жыл бұрын
nxdal I would honestly start off small, look at supplies from AliExpress, eBay, Amazon and local craft stores. I would also look into using Art n’ Glow resin as a starter one, there are other brands as well on Amazon you can look into. Just make sure to do your research. Also before starting resin, I would highly recommend you getting protective gear. Epoxy resin can be dangerous and cause rashes and other side effects if you don’t wear the correct gear. I would suggest a full face respiratory vapor mask, nitrile gloves, wearing long sleeves and making sure you are working in a well ventilated area that doesn’t have children around. Also keep in mind this is a very expensive craft/hobby, I didn’t know that until I really started getting into resin but I love it. 😭
@shanittathompson20394 жыл бұрын
Get a beginner kit. Look up resin kits some will come with UV resin, and an uv light. Craft Kitsune, Sophie&Toffee, Amazon, Etsy. Look up UV craft kits in your search bar. Start with the Uv then work your way up to the 2 part. Your local craft store will sell the 2 part, you can get the small one and try that out, if you don't want to do the Uv resin. Beware the Aluminite Amazing clear cast, stinks but is really good resin. I won't buy it again, because of the smell.

You ALWAYS need to wear a respirator and safety glasses and THICK nitrile gloves when working with resin, eco resin too! (Two pairs of gloves seem to be ok too) And do NOT sand it outside!! It will deposit in the soil, become micro plastic and pollute the planet for basically ever 🤦🏼♀️ Sanding outside does not protect you from inhaling it anyway.

To be honest.. Ever since I found out resin art was a thing, I kept thinking about wanting to do it. I love how you provide tips like to do it outside and inside a box while drilling. I also love how you provided the safety tips too. It's quite helpful for those who don't know about the dangers or just want to be sure they know what they're doing before getting into resin art. I personally would still love to do it sometime once I have most of the things I need. ((Such as a respiratory mask with a google attachment so it won't get in the eyes nor so you don't breath it in.)) I also never knew you could do shaker charms, so I thought this was quite cute. I really like how they turned out towards the end of the video. ^^

Thank you for talking about resin safety! I see SO MANY videos of people working with resin in their bedrooms (?!) without opening windows or even wearing gloves. So bizarre. Thank you for especially bringing up the dangers of resin dust. My art professor used to work with resin sculptures, and being around resin dust too often caused him to develop severe, life-threatening allergies to resin. He can’t even handle cured resin anymore. So many “art” channels on KZbin show resin but don’t highlight its dangers or the safety precautions necessary for handling it.

Another super helpful video!! I don't think I've seen many videos really explaining resin safety or anything about cleaning the pieces between initial demold and filling shakers. Is there a trick to using the UV resin on the perimeter to secure the clear film? No matter how I space it every time I have to press the film to make sure its pressed in and all sealed it always manages to leak in to the piece somewhat and something always gets stuck whether its tiny caviar beads or glitter.
@SweetArtCrafts4 жыл бұрын
I would suggest reducing the amount of UV resin for when you are applying the transparency film and then further securing that area with the second layer of UV resin that you do. That's what I do and I haven't had any things get stuck as yet.

Honestly, I don’t see a problem with using a normal mask. As long as you work in a well ventilated area with gloves you should be fine. I have worked in a not so well ventilated area (no windows) and with no gloves nor mask. Don’t do what I did 😅 but next time I’ll be wearing gloves and a mask. You can also read the instructions of the resin you have and it should say what kind of protection you should use when working with it.
