I played this last night for my 5 year old son and 9 year old daughter, and they both liked it and started rocking out. I was extremely proud and terrified at the same time.

Just be proud. Ignore the terror. Your children like some of the very last real protest music. Not canned rebellion for mass consumption....so there's still hope.

My very first hardcore show was when I was around 19 years old, I’m 58 now. I saw Negative Approach and Hated Youth in Gainesville FL at the American Legion hall..an off grade older building. The pit was huge and organized, the whole place was shaking. It started everything for me, still my favorite show all these years later.

I got this mail order from Touch and Go in 1983... It blew me away when I was 14 and still does the same today at 47. These guys along with the Necros, Meatmen, Iron Cross, UK hardcore of the time, the DC bands, etc etc etc etc were all our idols... What a great time that was then- nothing will ever compare to those early days of the hardcore scene.

Negative Approach is an American hardcore punk band, formed in Detroit, Michigan in 1981. The band is considered among the pioneers of hardcore punk, particularly in the Midwest region. Like most hardcore bands, Negative Approach was little known in its day outside of its hometown. It is now idolized in the Detroit rock underground and the punk subculture, considered to be one of the elite bands of the "old school" era, and continues to be influential.] Negative Approach initially broke up in 1984 with singer John Brannon moving on to the Laughing Hyenas, and later Easy Action, but the band has reformed as of 2006 and continues to tour sporadically.

Hey buddy, being an aging punk in this shit world can get to you. It doesn’t have to be “some emo shit,” if it hurts and life sucks, that’s just what it is. I say this because I see your original comment and it parallels things I’m feeling about my life. Just wanted to give a little solidarity shout out, and say I hope your second comment about doing better has held up.

My review on Allmusic written July 8, 2019. 5 Stars Negative Approach released their self-titled debut 7" EP in 1982 on Touch And Go Records. This rare Hardcore classic pre-dates their seminal album, Tied Down, and is just about as good. A 10 song adrenaline rush of Hardcore nirvana. Fortunately, this gem as well as Tied Down were reissued on the Total Recall compilation. Collectors will want to seek out the originals if they can afford it, but Total Recall is a great way to get this iconic music.
