What kind of royal icing do you use. I would love the recipe

I use a very old Martha Stewart recipe, it has to be 18 years old at least! Mine has just three ingredients, meringue powder, water and confectioner's (powdered) sugar.

How long do these dry? I have heard 8+ hours. The cookies must really dry out and so far I have not got an answer. Beginning start for me
