The laughter is everything. At least you're having fun! Sidenote: A coop needs to be on high ground which is why it's often built off the ground to prevent flooding, mud, moisture, etc. Gotta keep them dry. You don't want a walk-in one, lol The chickens need to feel safe in there so it shouldn't be too big. You want a hinged board over the nesting boxes so you can open it to get the eggs without disturbing the chickens.

I started scrolling to see if anyone commented this, but a lot of people build coops off the ground so you can get a wheelbarrow under to rake the dirty shavings/straw out. ❤❤❤ It’s soooo much easier to clean when it’s up high enough to get your wheelbarrow under the door. Good luck! And I HIGHLY recommend getting some barred rocks eventually if they are around the same size as your current birds. So family friendly, and GREAT layers.
@anaiyasgarden Жыл бұрын
For the size you guys are building, a walk-in coop is probably the way to go. If it’s small enough to clean from the door with a rake or hoe, off the ground works.
@anaiyasgarden Жыл бұрын
Sorry!!!!!!! As I’m watching I’m thinking of more things we learned over the years of building coops and having chickens. Make sure when putting it together that you keep in mind that weasels can squeeze into a crack or hole as small as one inch. They can devastate an entire flock if they get in. Make sure it’s all tight fitting and any holes/gaps are covered in small-hole sturdy wire.

This is the best video ever. And I actually do have some advice but not that helpful I suppose. When I painted houses we had a "home base" which was just a big drop cloth where all the equipment lived. So get a tarp or something to be the designated spot to throw stuff and you won't lose it!

You can put the coop on the ground no problem! Just build the nesting box higher. If you line the bottom interior of the coop with chicken wire it will keep predators and vermin out which is the biggest concern. Just make sure the nesting/roosting box is up with an access ramp and a heat source for the girls (and a door for you to access it and get eggs!) and you’re golden ☺️
