Carter is definitely a “less is more” drummer. That piece of music at the beginning was gutsy to play in an arena where most artists were likely showing off their chops. Stay with your voice.

the first thing i thought was "omg this is going to convince the people at Sweetwater to sell Istanbul Agops!" - Carter has THE BEST sounds in every department, touch, tuning, dynamics, cymbals...

If I was young, and I'm not, this man, Carter McLean, is who I would be spending my drumming time and dime with. Lord only knows how many days I have left, and there is still so much to learn, and I'm only speaking of drumming right now! Thanks and Blessings!!!

It is refreshing to hear that even awesome drummers like Carter also hum and make guttural noises while they're playing. Makes me feel better about my own unintelligible grunting while I play.

Man, I was thinking...., this dude is just on another level intellectually, and I'm never going to be able grasp his approach and technique. But the moment he was not sure what a kaleidoscope was called, or that the audience had no idea and he therefore had to explain it, it gave me hope that I might actually be able to learn this stuff; after years of practicing of course. Thanks for being moderately intelligent, Carter!

Well, before Keith, Gary Novak had that bass drum sound, and way before Gary, all those funky drummers* had that sound, it's like they were all playing funk music with a Be-Bop drums, and I think that it's what it was. *drummers for James Brown, Ray Charles, Curtis Mayfield, Motown, and so on...

I'm trying really hard to learn from Carter, he is more of the drummer I aspire to be before I die, and I found it so late in my life. It's hard, but Im trying. The only bummer is that so many drummers now sound just....bad, honestly or at least not as rad as I used to think they were.

@ryanwilson57824 жыл бұрын
Ludwig Club Dates! Seven ply maple/poplar/maple shells with the classic Imperial Lugs. I have the "original" kit these were based off from the sixties, and lemme tell ya, both versions pack a punch. Knowing Carter the sizes on these are more than likely 12/14/20, the Downbeat sizes. Looks like he's using two Club Date snares as well

Yeah, I think that was just your perception. He does not by any means seem like he is coming across that way. If anything, he is basically just saying he does what he does and doesn’t try to do crazy stuff because other people are better than him. I think he was just trying to get his point across of working on the useful things
