I’ve been waiting this video for years! Thanks Carter! Please teach us how you tune your drums! I’ve been getting close! Your sound is the most dynamic and musical I’ve heard

What doesn't come included with these mics are the magic touch/tuning that Carter has imposed on this kit. That kick sounds phenomenal, man. Nice work.

Man, those Earthworks SR25s when added -- such a difference -- beautiful. I assume you have them equal distance to the snare drum? Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Carter just like everyone else love your stuff. I know nothing about miking drums and the various pieces of equipment needed and the various vendors who supply those. I will Google on this but is there an online or face to face course that starts at the beginning and goes through at least intermediate level knowledge. Keep up the great work. It will be interesting to see your journey on the drums. If i can sound like an old fogey (I am - I am 73 years old) savor your journey. It will pass quickly. You have so much to savor now. Enjoy it before moving on. Bill.

Thanks for all you do for the drum community! Re this post: What brand of converter(s)/interface(s) are in in play into your DAW here? Thanks much, Mike H Austin, TX.

Very nice Carter. Interesting that you went with tom close ups, which I do too, however no hi-hat close mic?. I use an Audix F15 which is very nice. Overhead I use a matched pair of Rode NT55 mics at X/Y.

Do you not use API Mic Preamps anymore? Why did you switch to Heritage Audio? I use two API 3124V, one Neve 1073LB and one API 512v for my 10 mic configuration.

I’m working w Heritage Audio now. I prefer the warmth they deliver.

@@cartermclean thanks for the reply and explanation. Great to hear. The sound of your Heritage Audio gear is really great. I bought the API Preamps after I saw your video demoing those preamps, the sound convinced me immediately, I like the punchy sound they produce. With sound it is all personal preference, All the best for you.

Hey Carter, is the crash on your left side the dry dark brilliant 21?

Yup 👍🏻

The Coles by itself sounded good, until I heard more mics. Then it sounded a little too muffled and dark for my taste, although I'm sure there are situations where that is the preferred sound. I think I liked the sound with everything but the tom mics best.

I’m a home recording DIY multi instrumentalist, so not really a pro on drum micing, but I work with three microphones (overhead, kick, snare), and my overhead has so far always been (also for lack of alternatives) a phantom powered vocal mic. Why is that bad, because following your video that’s the only thing you can really do bad? And what would be a better budget overhead solution?
@JoelCarbonellGonell Жыл бұрын
I think he said that it will be bad sending a 48V phantom power to a ribbon mic because it will damage the mic itself. You are using a condenser mic as an overhead, nothing bad to this! Have a nice day!

Does placing the tape under the mic have more of an effect than placing it elsewhere on the head?

idk what heads you had on in the original video where you showed these drums, but damn the toms sound alot better in that, not that they sound bad here just my personal opinion i guess....beautiful drums and mics, i prefer the sound in the o.g. video myself. cheers carter!!

Those were Evan’s G12 wide open. Different sound. This was more about how different mics work by themselves or in conjunction. But yes…. the wide open thing is cool too.

I'm having another person check this, but the toms and kick sound really strange. Like compressors are set to a very slow attack. I don't hear any transient. Maybe I have something going on in my system, but the snare and cymbals sound nice. What I usually hear on your videos is always perfection, so I was suprised to hear this. Maybe my ears are playing games ?

It is all learned experience and great dynamics. You put one 57 on that kit and he will play to the strength of that mic and placement. There is no magic bullet. Great video , regardless !
