Along side my Mesa Mark V this is my favorite amp I've owned. The best part of a Marshall tone with a little AC 30 clean and just stacks great with pedals. One of few amps that takes a Paul and a Strat without tweaking anything too.

@kaycikissable I own a Superdrive 30. This is an extremely efficient amplifier. What I mean by that is though it is rated at 30 Watts, it is 30 FULL watts. It is as loud as many other 50 Watt tube amplifiers, such as marshall or orange amps. I have never turned it past half volume on the Master control. Even playing gigs with full bands playing HEAVY stuff. It is really, really loud. Get it!

It''s a reissue. It is actually built to '52 specs but has a humbucker in the neck and a body color that wasn't available. You never know what those guys do at the Fender Custom Shop.

I'm surmising that Mitch just doesn't like Fender single coils, but he was satisfied with the Tele bridge pup sound. And, by using P-90s he showed that the amp is also gainy and full sounding with pups other than HBs.. Some amps that rawk with HBs just don't do other pups justice. But this amp (which was tested with 1 HB) sounded bright and crunchy with the 3 single coils Mitch used. There was logic to the demo and it was well done. Q.E.D.: A mostly HB demo would prove what? Very little.

Reeeeally nice tone, I'd love to hear it with a 50s Strat...

Anyone else notice that Mitch plays the EXACT same riff and lead in every single Sweetwater demo?

@buddaman1971 They mostly sound crappy in youtube demos, including this one.You have to hear/play one live to get what it is all about. So impressed, I bought one!

I feel that the Superdrives don't get much love from the gear snobs simply cause Budda doesn't really fit into the boutique landscape. They are actually very interesting and unique amps. I had one sitting in my amp room, in a rack with heads costing many times as much, and it saw tons of use for years. They have a uniquely dark tone that can add a degree of variety into a guitar mix. Just like in this vid, a guitar that would otherwise sound sparkley or chimey, takes on a deeper more mid boosted character. Its quite interesting. Not a tone purist amp, but a very interesting flavor in a palette.

@uterallindenbaum considering i play a jcm800 2203 and i dont play under 12 oclock on the master, 30 watts isn't enough. depends on what kind of music you play and what the rest of your band plays. especially if you want super clean tones. 30 watts isnt gonna give you enough headroom to get some sparkly clean.
@thricex0513 жыл бұрын
@diceman1000 sorry. not enough headroom for me. i mean it also depends on what speakers you're playing through for squeaky clean but as for me, i found that most amps don't have enough head room for the volume i need. i've played through a fender deville 2x12. not enough headroom. you may say that it might be crappy tubes but when the amp is all tube, you are bound to have some break up when you have it set over noon. it's just the natural characteristics of tubes.

@uterallindenbaum it depends on the amp - my vht 50/cl isn't really all that loud through my caa 2x12. some 30 watters are loud as hell and some are much more manageable

@kaycikissable I know people who have owned the 30 watt head Superdrives. They say they are very loud.
@russellesimonetta38355 жыл бұрын
The same can be done with a princeton reverb. Want a 50 watt no problem

The Fender guitar is muddy, that humbucker sounds muffed, The Les Paul sounded a bit clearer. This amp would sound great with a strat.

There's no shame in making a mistake. "Headroom" is the term to describe the remaining or unused power factor on a given amplifier. In radio, science and recording labs the optimum scenario is to have amps that are powerful enough to get the job done with enough power to spare so no distortion is heard (or seen on an O-Scope). So, too much headroom (a 100 watt Marshall on "3" in a small club) means that natural tube distortion is unlikely. Smaller amps-less clean headroom are a better choice.

I know this amp. The sick fuzzy distortion on this vid has nothing to do with its real sound!!!
@4114B13 жыл бұрын
@evilvon Yeah, except the decibel scale is logarithmic; so when you're "only" 2-3 decibels quieter, you're also 20 to 30 times quieter. Kind of a big difference, just saying.

It's like driving your car half way then getting out and walking the rest. Heard these tone samples and went "Yuck...". The Budda amp sounds WAY better than this, even with this one being the Peavey made version... --Jason ✌🏻&❤

@evilvon you really don't know what you are talking about. that doesn't even make sense. you don't crank an amp to get clean tones. that's not how tubes work. the more you push it, the dirtier it gets. this is basic tube amplifier knowledge. when people say headroom it means more clean volume or later break up.
