Thanks. I purchased Lurssen Mastering Console from IK Multimedia. I used it as a stand-alone rather than a plug-in for Protools 11. I save a stereo 48 kHz 24 bit WAV file from Protools and import that into Lurssen Mastering Console. The make up gain was adjusted to get a volume level about equal to a mastered mix that Oasis Mastering (Los Angeles) did for me. The Oasis Mastering mix was the same track (song) as the track I mastered with Lurssen Mastering software. They sounded comparable - both awesome mastered mixes. The Lurssen master was a little brighter using the EDM bright template, even when I brought the mid to high EQ levels down a little from the EDM presets. In the end, I thought the Lurssen Mastering software gave me the same overall quality as the Oasis mastered version. I did use the PUSH feature to increase all the EQ levels a little during the pre-hook (pre-chorus) and a little more during the hooks (chorus). I could save the file in both 48 kHz 24 bit and 44 kHz 16 bit. I just need a converter to get it to MP3, as Lurssen does not save to MP3 format. No big deal. There is a lot going on in the background of Lurssen that is very sophisticated, but not adjustable. That is OK with me, as what is going on is thought out very carefully by mastering engineers/software engineers. I no longer will be sending my mixes for mastering at a studio. I will use Lurssen Mastering Console from now on. There is even a feature to ensure iTunes mastering quality (so iTunes will not reject a mix that is too hot). Will be releasing the Lurssen mastered track in a month or so (June 2017). Track title is MIA by recording artist Christine Lee.

The comparison is what I really came here for, but the db level is so different between the "bypass" selection and what the plug in actually produced that I can't tell what the plug in is doing beside making the mix louder. Pretty song though, btw.

well in mastering you make things louder and balance it. What you get is basically the decision how much louder you want it and a 5 band EQ. However it DOES sound good if you choose the right preset for your track and know how hard you want to drive/eq it. As long as your Mix doesn't have bigger deeper problems you will be surprised what kind of results you get with it. For the last couple of meters it's hard to beat sometimes. It's not a "fix it in post"-mastering-plugin. It's a "push my great mix to the limit"-plugin for people, who are not professional mastering-engineers yet. At least that's my assessment.

Thanks, this is more than they've released anywhere online after me dropping some money with great excitement to see what I could do with it, the tutorials aren't easily found. Mainly I wondered about using the ability to unlink the L and R controls beyond just unlinking, I don't see how to manipulate on or the other with automation.

one more thing, why don't you show the finished levels for a project, what RMS and Db levels are you going for as an end product ? Does it have meters to show the levels ?

It is one of the most expensive music production apps on iOS, which only means it will only be purchased by serious producers. That is sad because it would be very cool if newer music wannabes would have a chance to use a real professional product. Mastering is something that newcomers can take or leave, which is a pity. It would be good for everyone if IK could come up with a way for someone on a budget to get a taste of the entire functionality. Maybe a 6 month fully functional version or a limited number of exports, like 10, so you could master 10 songs for $5(just an idea) or charge per export so you only pay for a final file. That way you could use the app at full power and on,y pay when you decide to use the final mastered version. If it cost $15 per song it is still a tiny fraction of a professionally mastered song. I am just trying to get young people to realize the importance of mastering and how it could make the difference for a successful song. Who wouldn’t pay for the final step of production.
