Is it compatible with UA Apollo? If you have both, can you have the whole system using Logic? Finally, I'm getting the Eventide with the interface card. Can you call up the eventide with it's interface card through the Carbon and see the Eventide effects in the DAW? How do the converters compare with Apollo or Prism or Apogee or Antelope?

So does it have 16 converters or only 8? I got the impression from Avid’s release video that you could use the combo-Jack’s and the dsub at the same time for 16 analog inputs.

This Ethernet connectivity is interesting. Can it be run through an Ethernet switch or shared between multiple computers? If not, I really don’t see the benefit...especially considering with thunderbolt interfaces, many of them don’t require an external power supply, which is great. The last thing anyone needs is yet another power brick or cord to keep track of and take up unnecessary space.

Will the DSP in this interface work even if you use it with a different DAW, like Logic, Ableton, or Studio One?
@sweetwater3 жыл бұрын
Hey, Robert! Thanks for reaching out, it's Mickey from Sweetwater! The DSP on Carbon is designed around AAX and AAX HD plugin protocols. Only Pro Tools uses AAX plugin formats. While you can offload the plugin processing to the Carbon, it is more for use while tracking to maintain an incredibly low latency. This is similar to how Apogee DSP interfaces have full Logic ProX integration, or how Apollo interfaces integrate with Luna, for example. All which took cues from the world of Pro Tools Mix+, HD and HDX systems for its nearly invisible work flow. By the way I love the way it integrates with PT's awesome mixer. LOVE. But I still can't find the info of how low the latency is in native mode to play AAX instruments live. For example, say I set 64 buffer, is it low enough to be able to play virtual instruments with my keyboard and not feel latency. That said, it's still too dead end for me with only 24 A/D max. If they release a carbon that can be daisy chained, with at least 16 A/D on board + 16 ADAT, so I can have 2x32 analog ins, THEN I'll sell a kidney and I'll be 100% all in.

Acquire a Pro Tools subscription, even though I’ve utterly despised and avoided the subscription based model for software from day one? Fine, I’ll take the plunge, it’s worth the monthly cost. Price? No problem, I’ll get a second mortgage on my home, if necessary. Exclusive to MAC? A complete and irrevocable dealbreaker.
