@@tonybro1425 it’s worth it, I work with teens that have this surgery and they always say it is so worth it. Just prepare as much as you can. Snacks, a good place to rest with everything you’ll want nearby, different choices of liquid foods you can eat, etc

It reminds me of a time I had a really bad burn and I could feel my skin and deep inside my hand it was just burning I was going to run it underwater turned around and said can't be fucked and went to sleep even though its to reduce blistering well guess what it was a bad idea the blisters were pretty bad but it's fine or my dad when he split his shoulder blade in half and slept it off and my 40 kg dog jumped on it only then he went to check his arm out

Absolutely! I have found that dentists , oral surgeons, and so forth can sometimes seem totally oblivious to the amount of pain people can feel from these procedures. Telling people to use Advil and ice doesn't cut it. I feel so bad for this young lady. She needs pain meds!!!!!

Jaw surgery is SO EXPENSIVE & is usually not covered by insurance- the surgeon would absolutely be sending home opioid pain medication for my child for at least 3 days. That OTC crap won't touch surgical pain. I'd be so angry that I'd be filing a complaint with the medical board if this wasn't resolved promptly (with-in hrs). Enough with the fake opioid hysteria; extreme pain is the reason to prescribe them. This poor child 😢

For any experiencing this, dentists are suppose to immediately prescribe post op pain for swelling and or infection. Results like this go immediately to emergency and do not return to that dentist. My sincere prayers on healing.

Oh gosh, I know there's an epidemic with pain meds being abused after people get too many abd become physiologically dependent, but when it comes to surgery, you have to make sure the pain control is adequate! Making sure that there's no pain helps with the healing. It's a super fine line to walk, but I'd definitely talk to the doc who did the the surgery here about the pain. Perhaps, rather than cutting people off pain meds cold turkey after an operation, you could give a high dose for immediate and post-op pain management, then taper that?

Jaw surgery is no joke the pain and swelling were almost unbearable. The braces rubbing against swollen skin was just the cherry on top 😭

I had the same surgery, afterwords the nerve endings are very very sensitive because of the manipulation that occurred during the operation. So anything that’s happening in the mouth with the braces it’s going to feel 10 times worse. Don’t worry it will get better soon.
