I knew a guy who worked for Mercedes, he was tasked to deliver a Unimog to an airport for aircraft tug work, when it was serviced they couldn't work out why it had a twisted chassis. During the delivery trip he fell asleep at the wheel, left the motorway plunged down an embankment into a farmers field, cool as mustard rejoined the motorway, washed down the vehicle delivered the vehicle no-one the wiser. Really enjoyed this video.

I passed this Unimog last night on the NYS Thruway near the Junius Ponds Service Area. Looks like Michael is on another adventure.

Michael is a very cool guy & the vehicle is beautifully set up. I really appreciate the time taken to explain to us & show us. The unimog is set up very differently to how I imagine I would prepare one for overland adventures....but that is what makes this clip so interesting.

Great video! I love Unimog's, almost bought one in 2004. Just the base machine started @90k in my estimation worth every penny but till you got done with attachments and options it was more like 120k. I would of had to sell to many of my other toys and decided against it. Older used Mog's can be had for around 20k. They are the king of cool! I appreciate all your video's. Thanks, Dave

I have a 1982 1300 L Unimog that is upgraded in many ways and is turned in to an expedition truck. It's standing on a piece of land in Spain, because of the stupid panic that governements all over the world have put in sheeplles minds, that stop driving vehicles will turn back the ever changing climate of this planet. I live off grid in it and building at the moment a 10 meter tiny house on a semi trailer. One of the items that I have custom builded myself are freewheels on the front axle to save feul and the reductions in that front axle. Turbo, better engine cooling etc... The living unit is one piece polyester reinforced glassfiber and not mounted sandwich panels. Sleeping above the cabin with a roof there that moves up 25 cm to stay close to 2,5 m hight. Because a Unimog cabin has to tilt forward to work on the engine etc. the living unit tilt backwords as dumptrucks do.... Oeps, dump the old trucks..... what's comming out of those exhaust's gives you a dirty noose, the newest engines give fine dust that go's deep in your lungs. I'm 70 now and arguing about what ever with guy's who know everything is a waste of time. In the EU we have summer and winter time, means that twice a year the clock's have to move one houre back or forward. After more then 40 years finally , the EU governement accepts the realety that the dessison then taken , was wrong. Maybe in 40 years from now, driving my Unimog will be accepted again... :-) . No problem, a Unimog will do it even much later....

I have a 406 1975 Case unimog My mog is used for weed control it has spray booms on the front, a 500 gal tank on back I remove passenger door for visibility, I use RR guide wheels when I spray on RR tracks, the spay booms are operated by hydraulic from the cab, boom moves up down and side to side. I run a Royer brush shredder on the front or a 8' hammer knife on the rear for mowing weeds. transmission 20 speeds forward 8 speeds reverse top speed 45mph, not near as nice as the Doka, that on your video.

IVECO 4x4 truck in Canada used from Canadian Army also with the portal axles, probably better mpg than your 4Runner today loaded. There are also a few Unimogs for sale in Canada cause they used them in the Prairie farms and forestry industry. Yes, the older Unimogs (round fronts) are not made for taller people. The square box units (from 1979 on) were considerably more comfortable and head room can certainly accommodate you. In typical weird Mercedes style both types of Unimog were built at the same time so it is a little confusing.

You take a farm tractor and a utility truck and put them together. That is a unimog
@rangemog215 жыл бұрын
The Unimog has a verry flexible chassis that keeps the wheels always on the ground tougheter with the long traveling springs; you can put a 50 cm high block under the left front wheel and one under the right back wheel and it's still on four. Try that with a tractor or utillety truck. BUT, indeed, the Unimog is not made for the high-way but for all kinds of(f) raods, what makes it 99,99999999 % of the earth surface . ( if the snorkel is high enough, water is also not a problem, mine has a bit of over-pressure in axles, lights etc from the moment the 4x4 is ingaged, so that the water never gets inside those items )
@timk4044 жыл бұрын
"If this truck gets stuck, trust me you dont want to go forward." This comment made me loose all respect for this guy. He seemed very reasonable and experienced but all of a sudden he seemed like someone who built the truck to take to overland shows. If your going in and you get stuck and you want to go back out, yes you only need a rear winch but if your going out and get stuck (having to go up a hill you went down/mud hole that is easier going in than going out/dry going in, wet going out) if you have no front winch, you are going to have to winch out of the situation, turn around and winch through the obstacle backwards to get home. Makes no sense to anyone who has actually done any real off roading.
