I love seeing them wingersize! It won’t be long before they’re self feeding and lose the rest of their baby fuzz and grow into their big feet. These two have been a treat, and F23 has been an amazing mum with what I believe is her second hatchings. Lucky mom to have the well practiced super dad M15 as her partner. Fun times ahead as these babies come of age.

This moment in the nest was just about as cute as they come. The initiation of preening and talon crossing. It’s clear to me that they are much better off with each other than being a solo hatchling. What I’d call a companionable rivalry. Pray that all the many California raptor nests and the wildlife closer to the coastline will survive this terrible coastal fire. Very terrible Santa Anna winds are pushing the fire to the sea tonight. 🙏🏼

@ no I’m in the woodsy northwest corner of CT. There are no words for this particular fire- when I saw it at midnight last night, I felt in my gut that this is likely to become the worst fire in a hundred years.

I’m so worried too about the condors that may be in those remote mountains they took a huge hit a few years back near Big Sur in those fires! And of course all the animals on the ground and trees! This is horrible! At least people will figure out places to move to, the fauna all need specific environments!

It won’t just be the obvious devastation that we all can see right now, but the future devastation and impact that will follow from all these released carcinogens will likely be present for many decades to come. The “global” (net) catastrophic impact to generations of creatures born and unborn will be profound.

If there is any sort of "disturbance/danger" in the nest it's almost like either by instinct or possibly a signal of some kind from a parent, to get down or don't move. Everything seems to go well for them when they do that.😊

Love the big, clunky clown feet. E24 & 25 do seem to spend a lot of time napping. Albeit natural, I'm glad sibling rivalry has been limited, especially given the 3 day age difference. Ha! Funny how they both ducked when Mom F23 brought the large stick in. Good quick reactions by the Es.

I’m glad that there’s been very little bonking between these two. With some nests, it’s easy to tell which eaglet is the younger because of the divots on their heads because of the down being pulled out by the elder one.

It seems like so long ago that the Es were kicking their tiny pink feeties. It's not even been a month and they have huge clown feet and fierce-looking talons! And really itchy pin feathers! They are adorable and it's so fun to watch my first nest with 2 eaglets. Mom F23 was so funny trying to maneuver that wonky stick.

Hi Vicki those are the pin feathers coming in and they do feel a bit itchy! They don't hurt and they grow in fairly quickly. The sheath will start to peel apart and release the feather.

@@artistchristos Yes, bending over and shooting it over the nest is called the mute. It’s a combination of fecal, protein and water. Early on they doo poop in the nest, buy Mom or Dad keep it cleaned up. 😊

It is instinctual for the eaglets to learn how to point their tails away from the nest and let it rip! When they were babies, the poop did not fly off the nest but as soon as they got a little bigger, they can now release it with force!
