Both E's are perched on the DSPS (drive side pond snag) and they fly off. E17 lands on the attic and watches E18 flying near the front pine area being chased by a crow. At 1:00 you will see E18 flying at the lower left of the cam and then at 1:45 E18 is seen on the right side of the cam with a crow chasing and hits E18 in mid air and loses altitude! (I put in slomo!) Wow!! E17 flies off the attic and gives chase while E18 is still being chased by the crow! E18 finally lands on the nest and E17 on the veranda- what dang pesky crows!!
E18 lies down to rest in the nest and E17 will join her. They have a cute beaking moment and then E17 gets up and swishes its tail in front of E18 who nibbles it at 6:09. ♥ Then E17 will nibble on E18's tail at 6:52 and offer a little bone to E18 at 9:16.
E17 will fly off the attic and head to the pond for a sip of water and return to the attic. E18 is up from her nap and joins E17 on the attic and we have some wonderful closeups of our dynamic duo! They are so beautiful! The E's are 96 days old! Thank you for watching!

I can't help it, I love crows. You've got to admire their audacity...well maybe you don't but I do. They're fearless. Actually, they're fairly polite to the other birds when feeding from our huge tray feeder. However they're little hooligans when it comes to pranking other birds. They actually laugh when they prank my robins, cardinals, etc...and we laugh with them. They don't harm them. They're quite funny and they know it. 😄 Our bluebirds won't tolerate them. Bluebirds are gutsy little guys also. They refuse to raise Cowbirds. When a cow lays an egg in their nest they toss it out when discovered. I've seen beautiful Cardinals hatch and raise those gangly birds. 🙃 All are welcomed to our numerous feeders. Feeding a large bevy of birds can become quite an expensive hobby, as I'm certain many of you know. Life in the fast lane. Crows live on the edge. 😄

Reassurance in the nest from big brother comforting 18 after the crow attack. When 17 gleaned 18’s tail feathers it was like he was brushing her hair (smile). How about a trinket (bone), that might make it better ! Not now, ok, I’ll stay real close & guard you for awhile. We’ve got this sis.

I confess that I am so traumatized with the crows by the damage they did to the nests of Akecheta & Thunder and Shadow & Jackie that I'm apprehensive when I see the word crows in the titles of the videos. Glad that E18 only lost her attitude when she was hit by the crow in mid-flight. 🙏 By the way, this exchange of affection between E's is very sweet. Those soft beaking I call sweet kisses from eagles. I love those sweet kisses between them. Thank you very much, Lady Hawk. I loved the video description. 😍💕💕 🌄

Hi Silvana, one way to look at the crow in this video is it's training the eagle for what is ahead in life as other eagles will chase it and try to steal its food. Eagles need to learn evasive flying methods. It hurts me too to watch what crows do on nests.
@chamed27

@@christineh4782 We haven't experienced crow destruction on our property. We have 280 acres. It may be happening in other areas but not in ours. Believe me, we diligently check the wildlife on and around our farm. We don't have a problem with them. Possibly because we keep our feeders full and provide plenty of nesting materials. We are also fortunate enough to have a hawks nest down by our horse barns. The crows test them periodically, though no destruction has occured. Right now I'm checking out our bluebird houses. They are busy setting their eggs and chirping quite contentedly. The crows are making quite a splash bathing in the bird baths and raising quite a ruckus. When they're finished the bird baths will have to be replenished. *Sigh...and my energy will be deplinished by the time the morning is through. 🙃 😴

The affection they share, the times of tender care as when E17 gives 18 a little bone, their beakies and playful tail nips touch my heart, reminding me of such moments in my and my twin sister's childhood💕 (minus beaks, tail nips and bone offerings☺)! I have so many videos to catch up on(maybe this weekend) but when I saw the title to this one, I just had to stop & watch it!! The crow chasing E18 was wild, but then E17 giving chase and seemingly in an attempt to come to E18's rescue, was just too precious!! :-) As though that wasn't enough to melt your heart, then the together time on the nest that followed and all their playfulness with the other--complete with tail nips & bone gifts--my heart is literally mush right now, ha!! :-) Even your description made me smile. GREAT FOOTAGE LH, thank you!! :-) -Hugs

@@michellegrovak Hello GrandmaChelle23 in the cover shot E17 is on the left and E18 on the right. Also in the video beginning at 13:00 timestamp till the end. It really shows both E17 and E18's beak and gape (mouth corners) well which we do look at to determine gender. A female will have a larger deeper/wider beak and will have a gape that extends past the eye (which we see in E18) The male beak is a bit narrower and the gape will not extend that far back. I hope this helps!

@chamed27
@chamed27 3 жыл бұрын
Ha! The eagles are tough enough to handle a few bonkings from a crow. They know they're, what, 10 × the size of a crow? I'm sure if the eagles were so inclined they would give a crow a real run for the money. However, they also know crows are crafty, agile critters and won't waste their time on such a useless endeavor as to tangle with a silly bird half their size. Eagles rule the sky. They are astonishingly regal creatures. The eagles would have to be starving to death to bother chasing down and killing what would be a mere morsel of a meal. Although these beautiful birds of prey have been known to kill small birds when food is scarce. Crows, however, are amazingly sly and are able to feint masterfully and are seldom on the eagles menu. Eagles have more important matters to contend with, such as owl attacks. They consider crows a waste of time and energy.

@ladyhawk
@ladyhawk 3 жыл бұрын
Yes the crows nest close by and they are protecting their territory. The crows know exactly when the eaglets fledge and as soon as they see them on the snag trees and flying around they immediately set out to chase them out of the area. They don't think they can prey on them but they do think they can chase them off. Remember the owls that kept striking Harriet and M15? The owls ended up having owlets in a nest close by and once those owlets left the area the parents had no more reason to keep striking and attacking the eagles.The timing was most fortunate in that E17 & E18 had just learned to branch. An owl strike on one of the E's could have easily injured them.

Crows are one of the most conceited breed of birds you'll ever meet. Crows don't seem to fear anything...except people, and for good reason. They think they're invincible. Yes, They can be cantankerous and they're always full of mischief. They're also hilariously funny. If you have an opportunity just watch a group of them sometime...that is if you can stand their raucous nature. Grab a pair of ear plugs. You may need them. Lol Blue Jay's are another bird with a similar attitude and personality as the crows. I 💘 the Jay's, too.

Crows are very protective of their nests....the eaglets may be perching and flying close to a nest. Eagles will prey on crow nestlings and believe me, crow parents never ever forget. Eagles mostly ignore crows but once in awhile will snag the crow that’s pestering them. Education for E17 & 18.....it will happen throughout their lifetime.

@ladyhawk
@ladyhawk 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rita yes both E's should stay in the area for another month or so! Most of the time they end up staying about 4-6 weeks after they fledge but of course they could leave at any time. Last season E15 did not want to leave and stayed here until November when Harriet and M were building a new nest since E15 was still occupying this nest! E15 left in the nick of time before Harriet laid her eggs!

@platinum1x1x17

I have solved the mystery of telling them apart. E18 has Tail Feathers with long White strains in them and E17 has only Black Tail Feathers. Also if you look carefully at the Beak of E17 it has a rounded shape to it like his Dad does and the Beak has a little dent or depression in it at the exact place where the Egg Tooth used to be. This will grow out over time and the Beak will become round once again. E18's Beak is a litte more straight or slender like Mom's Beak and that is how you can tell them apart.

They do nest close by and we see the crows pester the eaglets each year and also Harriet and M15!

Ja, sie scheinen sehr enge Geschwister zu sein und machen alles zusammen - verteidigen sich sogar gegenseitig vor nervigen Krähen!

Oh they are so beautiful. Those dang crows, just irritate me. I'm sure they irritate our eaglets more than anything.

Am glad they are so strong and resilient, you'll be OK e18. E17 was not having it he/she went and help it's sibling. Don't let em detour you. That crow is teaching them what's to come in their life and how they will have to defend themselves and guard their territory. And also the crows get bully by the smaller birds I've seen them literally being attack by smaller birds and flying around like crazy just to get away from them.

Those crows are the thugs of the sky. I think they are playing their own version of the 'Knockout Game'
