SWFL Eagles ~ Great Horned Owl Male Brings A Food Gift 🎁 Two Overnight Nest Visits! Hooting 10.27.23

Coverage is from Oct 26th around 8pm with an owl visit to the veranda tip and then the nest & Oct 27th at 6:29am for the food delivery. Both owls were seen.
The coverage begins with an owl flying in to the outer veranda branch around 20:18 on Oct 26th. It comes closer down the branch looking at the nest & hooting and then flies off. A few minutes later, an owl flies in to the nest edge rails and then enters the nest. It digs around the airplant that M15 brought in and stays a few minutes and flies off.
Just before dawn, the male GHO flies into the nest with a food gift for the female. He is hooting for her to come to the nest. He drops the prey on the nest and turns around and continues to call for her. The male picks the prey up in his beak and heads to the spike. At the same time the female flies in to the porch and joins in hooting. The male flies off the spike and the female will fly off as well. Thank you for watching!

GHO are smart creatures and adorable too! They enjoy stealing homes from others,we do know it's nature but they must be getting in Mighty M nerves! Babies are in the way,he is having his best life which he deserves! These owls will attack in the evening and ,life will be chaos for both parties! Prayers for peace on both sides! The GHO'S are pretty darn cute, that's for sure!!! They can court, eat, explore, play, all through M & F's nest while the nesting season hasn't officially started - and they say, "We will," lol, 😉 They have a nest close by, if it's still intact, so they are just checking out the "greener grass on the other side" - the better nest, 😉 Hopefully F23 lays an 🥚 real soon to seal the deal. Owls aren't called wise for nothing, ❤

Our beautiful eagles better start spending time in their nest or there is going to be a battle over it soon! I don't look forward to M15 taking so many hits from the owls!

Here we go again! I worry because they knock M15 off where he’s sitting often times hard. It gets on my last nerve. It’s nature but I prefer them to return to their nest that they made. This nest is already owned by M15.❤️🦅🦅❤️

This will never ends,these irritating GHO is getting comfortable in this beautiful nest! Mighty M and his mate will fight it out if they meet face to face! Well these Hootie cuties are getting too comfortable Its courting time for them and Food gifts are expected by the female GHO from the Male!. I think F23 has to give one of her Fiesty looks! But on a serious note this is Worrying me!, We just need M15 and F23 to Start Roosting here, and although i think the Owls Will Strike thats another worrying factor They are very Pesky , As with what we witnessed last season, It would be great if there was some distsnce between these two Raptors.. Last season I watched in horror as the owls time and again flew full speed into the eaglets. It about gave me a heart attack every time. I don't know if the owls will relent should F23 lay eggs and they hatch, but I am getting a very sick feeling about this season. 😮‍💨

These GHO can be a nuisance! Best solution is for our gorgeous Lady to lay her precious eggs's as soon as possible! That will make our Mighty M and his mate to stay put in the nest! They will chase these rascals 😂away ..once the little ones arrive! Hopefully we have a peaceful season without any obstacles! Thank you for sharing this clip Lady Hawk..take care!!🤗😇

The eagles and the hooties are equal opportunity annoyances to each other every nesting season. Been going on for years. Everything works out come Springtime. Everybody takes a vacation for molting time. Then like clockwork, they're all back at it again.😂 No worries. Enjoy. This is just nature being nature. 😁✌🏻🌺

If 🦉lays eggs it’s possible M-15 or F23 could push them off the nest. I have seen in the past with other birds doing that on TV series “NATURE”. We don’t know what’s going to be. Hope for the best for all❤️🦉🦉🦅🦅❤️

The eagles have favorite roost trees near the nest, but they wouldn't know that their nest is being invaded at night by the owls.

Yes,it is a very nice home for M and F but not for Hooty and his mate. I think those owls better beware of fiesty F23 she doesn't mess around. M&F need a sign that says"enter at your own risk". My money would be on F23. 👍😉🦅🦅😘

It would seem like M15 and F23 would notice the scent of the owls during the day. I don’t ever recall them having such a good time at this nest before either; only to knock the eagles off the branches!

The GHO looks so small against the large nest. I hope they don’t take it over and M & F move to another nest they might be building? Didn’t that happen already years ago?

It's my understanding that Harriet and Ozzie's nest fell apart after 9 years and that's when they built in this tree. There is a Nest 2 site, but I wouldn't call it livable by eagle standards 😊. Then hurricane Ian hit and destroyed the nest that Harriet and M15 built and what you see now is their rebuild ❤🦅 Correct me if I'm wrong anyone!

It was my understanding that a man damaged and killed the original tree that was the location of Ozzie and Harriet nest that was located across the street prior to The Pritchet property location and cams.

It looks like Mr Mrs Owl are claiming this nest. Not a good sign for eagles! She may be very close to laying her egg - then good luck geetting her out. 2 days ago late afternoon a huge flock of ( sparrows? ) flew in to roost. I quit counting at 25

Why doesn't M or F reside in the nest overnight? Is the nest only used for rearing purposes?

As time gets closer to egg laying the eagles will begin roosting in the nest tree at night. In the past this has been in late November. Owls lay their eggs before eagles so they could steal the nest. The owls are well aware of all the work M15 and F23 are putting into this nest. Hopefully that is enough to discourage the GHO from laying eggs there.
