Other than that, your team, name, colors, and history are all still intact. Imagine how you Cleveland fans would feel if all of your past greats were listed as Baltimore Browns. Imagine how you would feel if you had to jump through every hoop to get an expansion team, only to see it unjustly given to Jacksonville, and furthermore told by Tagliabue to "build a museum" instead of hoping for the NFL to return to your city.
@SuperSparrow45

Except instead of robbing another team of their franchise (like Baltimore did), the Browns had to build everything they lost from the ground up. The Ravens essentially got everything the Browns had made and rode it to a successful franchise with 2 Super Bowls this millennium. Meanwhile, the Browns went from a respectable organization to the literal laughing stock of the NFL.
@Eli-ss9gj
@Eli-ss9gj 3 жыл бұрын
@@SuperSparrow45 they didn't "ride" anything. The Ravens got that championship on their own after 3 losing and 1 break even seasons. 3 former Cleveland Browns were on that roster, DE Rob Burnett, backup DT Larry Webster, and K Matt Stover. Cleveland hardly gets any credit for that one, and they get zero for the 2012 championship.

THE main reason for Baltimore's discontent is that the Colts franchise continues in Indianapolis! Hall of Famers who played for BALTIMORE Colts get compared to Indianapolis Colt current players as if they played in Baltimore. That doesn't happen in Cleveland. I'm sorry that we took Cleveland's team. However, we didn't take their colors, name or HISTORY with them. Their records continue, their colors and name continue and their fans can take pride in their history as if nothing happened. Not true for Baltimore. So, if you are offended by Art Modell's choice, remember that Maryland, Baltimore and Art all gave you back what you deserve...your dignity.

i wish the NFL would make it so the history of the team belongs with the city. All of Baltimore Colts history, titles and HOFers should belong to the Ravens, while the Indianapolis Colts should be their own history. the Titans should not have the Oilers hstory and should give it back to Houston.

@@xevious1538 That's completely on target. Titans look hideous having Earl Campbell in it's ring of honor. He was a college Texas Longhorns great and Houston Oilers great. Houston Texans should be allowed to have full ownership of Oilers history with a five season void 1997-2001 in-between. Texans cheerleaders should be linked together with the Oilers Derrick Dolls cheerleader alumni.

+Vincent Niederman What bothers me is the bitterness that fans have towards one and other. I'm a Ravens fan and even I hate the Colts somehow even after all these years. I understand the people of Cleveland. I think that the NFL did do it right allowing Cleveland to keep it's history. The future of football will always include teams moving to better markets. It's a business after all and in that sense I understood Bob Irsay back then. The NFL needs to make the case of Colts/Browns/Ravens a bylaw. If a team leaves a city- the city keeps the colors and history. If you move your team you will have to start a new. My opinion but a franchise is a copyright- but sole less if it doesn't have a fan base- and that fan base will be bitter always if you don't give them hope. Did Colts fans become Redskins fans? No. In fact- we hated the Redskins even more in our house. They were the reason it took us 12 years to get a team back into Baltimore- after the 1992 expansion. Got to love football!

You don't need league approval to move. Al Davis's 1980 anti-trust suit against the NFL settled that matter. Blame the Maryland state legislature for the Colts moving out in the middle of the night or moving at all. The legislature passed a bill that would allow Baltimore to seize the team by eminent domain. The team had to be sneaked out to avoid police seizure.

Baltimore had to wait 11 years to get another football team since the Colts left in 1984. They had a new stadium in 1998 and won their first NFL world championship as the Ravens in their fifth year in 2000 and won another in 2012. The Colts had to wait until Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy arrive for their first title in 2006, 22 years after the move and if it wasn't for Peyton, Lucas Oil Stadium would've existed and that building would've been part of the Super Bowl hosting cycle.

Plenty of us in Cleveland are still to this day upset about The old Browns leaving to Baltimore. However, I feel as Art did what was necessary after the other teams had new stadiums built. Nobody deserves to have their final resting place violated in any way possible. Baltimore felt our pain, they just didn't share it. Four Cities, four franchises...Browns Colts, Ravens, and Stallions Cleveland, Indianapolis, Baltimore, and Montreal has a link and that's their love for football.

Ya i'm Canadian and remember the CFL was in financial trouble and the federal government wasn't gonna bail them out so they expanded in the U.S. to try something else. Baltimore was the only city that really got into it, 2 Grey Cup appearances, losing the 1st and winning the 2nd over Doug Flutie and the Calgary Stampeders. The only American team to win the Grey Cup! The Stallions moved to Montreal and became the Allouettes who were a storied franchise but folded. That team is still dominant.

I was devastated when the Colts left Baltimore, but in reality Irsay did not sneak out in the middle of the night. He tried for years to negotiate with the city, but the city didn't do anything. The city officials knew very well they were running out of time. Once the city voted to never give a dime for a new stadium, there was nothing for Irsay to do. And let's not forget that the fans were not showing up to watch games, making it more tempting to take the team.

Yes, there was that issue very much in public (never mind no one liked Irsay, even his son). What was NOT in public was that he was, indeed, leaving - we just suddenly woke up and found them gone! I have an honest question for Baltimore people who are old enough to remember the Colts move. If the team was so precious to you, so treasured by the city, why didn't people go to the games? Ticket sales were awful for several years leading up to the move. Sure they had bad records, Bob was a bad owner. But when Indy Colts went 1-15 the Hoosier Dome still sold out that year and the next. Why didn't you all go to the games? Teams need a revenue stream to function.

Let's make something clear. The point we are forgetting is that the Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts are a franchise of a team, not the city. the sad part was how the NFL did exactly nothing to give Baltimore another team and also other things that stopped baltimore from getting a team. example in the early 90's two new expansion teams. they gave them to jax, and NC...

Also, what happend between Bmore and Clevlnd was unfortunate for Clevlnd, but only for 2 yrs. We had to wait 13 yrs. And, no matter how it came about Clvlnd got to keep everything. they didn't even mention the Baltimore Stallions of the CFL. Baltimore showed it's a football city by supporting a team from a Canadian league.

I don’t think it will happen because it’s literally the founding franchise of the league like the Packers. The Cards moved and they’re older than the bears.

What this is all about is comment of the man @ 4:36. He hit it right on the head. I never understood why Baltimore did not fight for the Colts namesake like Cleveland did. I was so happy for that mayor in Cleveland when he kept their name. I, to this day, feel the City of Baltimore should unprecedentedly petition for their name back. Let the Indy team be called something else. The "Colts" name & legacy BELONG IN BALTIMORE! I was born in B'more in '65 to Ewtah St. I exited from Pimlico Rd. ={

Oh, and you know how much it hurts to see that Colts history in Indy? Here's one thing you're all to hypocritical to admit.....you signed, sealed and delivered Art Modell to Baltimore before anyone knew for sure that he wasn't going to take the Browns history to Baltimore. You know that winning tradition the Ravens have "built"? Yeah, that all resided in Cleveland until you decided you had the right to interfere w/OUR team and heritage. The success you've had since '96 should've been ours.

Every city the NFL abandoned, it has returned to except for one. Some cities got better deals than others. But it is poetic justice that the one city the NFL has not returned to is the city that started the whole mess back in 1980, Los Angeles. The Rams moved to Anahiem but remained the LA Rams, LA got greedy and wanted another team for the LA Coliseum and stole the Raiders. Now they have nothing. Karma!

Yes, a portion of the history of the Colts is in Indianapolis, but his (Unitas) history is with the "Baltimore" Colts. Lenny Moore didn't play in Indianapolis. The '58 championship was won by the "Baltimore" Colts. I think they're histories should be kept separate.

It cannot be said that Baltimore will not support a good football team. For starters there was the Balt Colts. After they were stolen, then came the Balt Stars which was a USFL team. Then came the world champion Balt Stallions who by the way had their team logo stolen by the Denver Broncos.(Check it out)Then came the one time Super Bowl Champs the Balt. Ravens. The Ravens may be down right now from poor planning and management, but they will come back to be champs again.
