Where i am working we take a dirt box with 2/3 rock , 1/3 sand and 4 or 5 bags of portland cement mix on a trailer with a mixer mounted on the back.

Can you use metal posts like that for wooden fence and if so do they last along longer than pressure treated?

We use the 2' to do some things a torpedo can't. Its really hard to use a torpedo on round wood posts too.

Setting post height seems to be the most complicated task of our jobs. Having a ridiculous amount of unleveled ground doesn’t make it easier. Any tips for making that process a bit easier when dealing with unleveled ground?

Set your end (terminal posts) first at proper height, then run a top string from both of those heights to the new posts that you are setting. That is if they are terminals, for line poles you would mark down 4 inches from the 49 inch height of a 4 ft fence then run a string to that height at set all your Lines to that string. I have been doing fence an awfully long time :) Hope it helped

@@El-Stormo I’ve been looking to set a terminal posts. I’ve been reading online you drill it at 90 degree angle to ensure the top of the terminal post in the slope will be the correct right. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated!

@@El-Stormo the entire slope from terminal post to terminal post is 15in slope when I level it with a mason line. It’s a 40 foot length so will have two line posts.

I’m making that change immediately… never gonna set another post I before concrete again! Just curious… we use a lot of hedge (bois d’arc) posts for fences. They will outlast treated pine or cedar by several decades. I can show you fences with 6” diameter posts still solid and strong that are 100 years old. None of them are in cement… there are both dug in and driven in posts in the fences. They were set with rocks and clay pounded into the holes to hold them. Newer fences with concrete rot the wood! Now here’s the question(s)… at equal depth and equal diameter… which one holds better? Rock packed or concrete. Second, have you ever used hedge posts?

I am familiar with hedge. Are you in KS? Concrete will hold better but can shorten the lifespan of wood as well as cost more.

Same concept as what you see here only exaggerated. Decide how much deviation you don't want to show up in your fence and set straight for those portions. Anything beyond that deviation you gradually roll in and out of over time so your fence line smoothly follows the terrain instead of jerking all over the place. 👍🏻

I got a question. What is the best way to set 4 1/2 inch 16ft long pipe for 12 ft fence that has to be poured with 300 psi approved concreted They are a Beast to set and they want 8 inches of concrete underneath the pipe. I was looking for something like a pipe slip like those I used on the oil rigs but they are way to much $ and are heavy as shit to be practical for setting up 450 ft of them to hold them up waiting for concrete to harden. I'm at a job installing 12ft fence for a soccer field taking over from another company that poured them staggered to fuck with 5 ft of concrete not one is even close to being centered of the hole even a drunk man would say that's not straight looking from 2kms away. I've pulled them all out but now they tell me i have to have them 8 inches above. So I figured i'd reach out to Americas best for a solutions. I've got all the holes 5 ft exactly straight using a line and laser level because it's a city job they want verified to finished grade domed top of concrete 6 inches under final grade. This Job is on a hill and the Winds are pretty crazy. It's almost winter time and there are no leaves to block any wind now so I'm kinda like How the fuck am i supposed to set 54 pipes in the hole and have them hold and stay 8 inchs above keeping them straight / Plumb while the concrete cures fighting with the wind 40 - 80kph. The technique you use is the same one. But with 4 1/2 pipe and 16 ft long once that concrete gets in the bottom they are heavy getting them down isn't hard it's keeping it up that's the problem i'm using 12' sonotube 5ft post goes 4ft 4inch i'm using a vibrator because the require it to be and even that the pipe just wants to go down lol. I was thinking 2 4 -4 1/2inch Pipe Rising Claps with a 2x4 spread base for the bottom and 3 center bands 3/4 of the pipes height like 8ft ish for a tripod using top rails to keep it up?

On something like this we pour around the post rather than stab it into the wet concrete. We use a pole setting attachment to make this easier since the posts are so heavy. Once the post is in the hole with the concrete we wait for the concrete to cure enough then install one or two brace bands at the bottom of the post to catch a 2x4 or pipe that spans the hole. With the the post to height, we tighten the brace bands down on top of the 2x4 so that the post can’t slip down anymore. Wind isn’t an issue because we keep an eye on the post as they cure and it doesn’t take very long at all for the concrete to cure enough so that the wind can’t move the posts. @@SWiFence Thanks alot we have ordered 2 I've never seen those before. Battlefield does not have any to rent 2 months until the ones we ordered arrives. I solved the problem with 4 1/2 riser clamps 15$ + tax each 46 of them 2 for each pipe with 2x4 base and used scaffolding to braced them. 120 K. P. H In the storm we are having and they haven't moved an inch. The concrete isn't curing fast ground is soaked and +6 Celsius 120 mms of rain the other day. It has rained every day Haven't had sun once since starting. We poured on Tuesday at 9am 54 holes and didn't harden till 6 hours later.

5' 10" is best. 5'9" is a little low. I use a string line to set to height. Set the line at 10" above grade and mark the post at 5'.

I dont understand adjusting to the terrain. Why wouldnt U use the Grade Mark, raising UP 1" above Grade seems to me U will be High? Ive watched this part of the video over and over and using Chop Stix for props to visualize 😂😂. Ok, after watching the raising 1" part 99 times 😂, U ARE using your Grade Mark, U are just explaining how High u had to raise 👍👍.
