right ups! haha that's great. Took me like 20 years to learn that the word "Bistek" is not spanish for "steak." "Bistek" is just "steak" with a thick mexican accent. I nearly died of my lungs collapsing and stomach imploding when i made the realization. 😂🤣

45 degrees is best but it's not essential. We're talking about triangulation and as long as the members are stiff enough and the corner fasteners are sturdy enough, a more acute angle won't be a problem. I won't say 10 degrees is good, but 30 degrees should present no problem as long as the members are stiff enough. Matter-of-fact inserting a center member as you've shown will cause shearing stress on the fasteners at the ends of that center member.

Having built mine years ago using wood posts and concrete, I will say this would be much better and I wish I'd had this option at the time. The redwood posts just don't hold up to the elements. I'd like to do a 4' privacy fence out front. I'm curious what size post I would need.

This method only applies to a perimeter frame gate. If it is frameless then whether the brace is in tension or compression, you still rely entirely on the fasteners. ✌️

Dumb question but can I still put the tension wire if the chain link is already up? If so do I just run it through the links? 😅
@SWiFence
@SWiFence Күн бұрын
Sure. It may be a little harder, but you should be fine. Do NOT run it through all the links. Run it and hog ring it to the fabric just like normal. 👍🏻

This looks to be a wonderful fence! We keep sheep, horses, donkeys, chickens and ducks behind fences far less sturdy than that. I can also say from experience, if you are using this type of fencing for dogs, you actually want a bit of slack - the tighter a fence like this is, the easier it is for dogs to climb... and not just domestic dogs - think coyotes and animals like foxes too. Now if you're trying to keep goats in.. you pretty much need Alcatraz in fence form.

Our townhouses have gotten new exterior paint. The painters were six young Mexican kids. Only one spoke English. They put in long days and their work was fast and flawless. Construction companies go to the local high schools to try to interest young people into going into the building trades. They have little success.

I oull alot of oost living in Southern oregon. Everything is cemented due to clay with bedrock a 1ft down, so your digging. Never had a problem leaving cement behind on post that are not rotted. Cement on wood is plenty sufficient.

DIY skills vary so widely from person to person, but if you're handy I don't see why you couldn't handle this. You can probably source materials from local fence companies (although they may not be familiar with the driven method. Components available on our website: www.swifence.com

With your compression brace, now all the pressure is on the TOP RAIL fasteners at the hinge stile. A lot MORE pressure. You just relocated the weak point to a different point and increased it due to a longer horizontal force. You messed up. In other words... *You are WRONG*

It seems clear that the single brace on the long gate is more effective than the heavier and more complex version with three braces/boards. The single board not only holds the gate higher in the video, while the triple brace sags dramatically; but it also would likely hold more weight placed atop if easily tested. The additional braces add almost nothing but extra weight and waste. The one brace that is working is now put at a severe mechanical disadvantage due to the length of the gate extending as a lever beyond it. Braces should go corner to corner for maximum strength, as you first instructed, with few justifiable exceptions.
