Got interrupted on my Swift Academy training when I had to go get tested for sleep apnea (I have it) and get set up with a CPAP (the adjustment session is tomorrow night). Then apparently I get a month of recorded sleep before I can return to the Swift Academy for my CDL-A training. In the meantime, I've been watching these videos to try and pick up all the information necessary that doesn't require me to be in the cab. Stephan is a big help in that regard. From this video I now know what the green and red flashing lights at a loading dock are telling me.

I used to put a bungee cord on each door to keep it closer to the trailer side. Then remove the bungees when I was done backing.

The only thing I don't I don't like about most of these big companies is that they have new drivers teaching.. I know guys that have a yr or less and already have a student... I've been driving for around 8yrs, and I still consider myself a new driver.

I Agree with you driver. Most the mega carriers bring in so many driver's I guess they have no choice but to stick students with guys that have really no experience. Im not saying this trainer on the video is new he seems pretty legit... I got 12 years and I can't and won't consider myself a veteran no time soon. I learned from a 40 year vet who always told me when you think you know it all you will fail...

Been watching trucking videos as I'm interested in becoming a truck driver. Little concerned though...Once a new driver hits the road on their own, if they run into any situation that might not have been covered during the training and find themselves unable to do it, what then? Say you manage to get stuck on a super narrow residential road and the driver can't make the turn? Can they call in for a more experienced driver to come help?
@StephanHarz
@StephanHarz 6 жыл бұрын
When you get stuck like that...hopefully your mentor/trainer gave you the tools to work it out your self. If you are still lost then yes you can call another truck driver or another trucker may stop and lend you a hand. If all else fails stop and think about the issue and work it out. Trucking is one of those things you will have a bad day and things will go wrong..I can do a video talking about some of my fuck ups that I have done and what I did to get out of them

Matthew Leisy most cases you might be in the middle of nowhere and have no one to help you but yourself. If that’s the case set the brakes turn on the flashers get out and evaluate the situation if you have to then do it. With time comes experience after a while you will be making turns and backing up like its second nature. Good luck to you most of all stay safe and courteous!
