The peak of Swiftcurrent Mountain and the Lookout is the highest point accessible by trail in Glacier National Park. ‪@nolanventures473‬ starts at the Loop trailhead on the Going-To-The-Sun Road and heads 4 miles to the Granite Park Chalet. An additional 2.5 miles gets you to the summit of Swiftcurrent Mountain and the Fire Lookout. This hike boasts 4,300 feet of vertical elevation gain and sweeping views of Glacier. From the lookout you have a fantastic view of Swiftcurrent Glacier, the Many Glacier Valley and even views into Canada. Peaks from all over the park are visible including Heaven's Peak, Iceberg Peak, Mount Gould, Mount Grinnell, Mount Wilbur, and many more.

We are heading there early Sep 2023 for 8 days. Definitely adding this one to my list. Your videos have been super helpful and I’m super excited even though it’s 355 days away!

Like others have said, keep an eye on the weather if you do this hike. The weather was absolutely perfect this day (I coincidentally hiked it the same day), it was in the upper 70s without a cloud in the sky and not much wind... but Glacier had it's first snowfall the day before (Sept 9th) and it was quite cold all day This hike was so worth it!

Best outhouse view in the world..... 35+ years of hiking and climbing Glacier Park, and this is one of my favorites, right up there with views from Reynolds and Bishop's Cap.

Looks spectacular! Was the trail well marked and easy to find? Thanks for sharing. ✌️

Once you get to the chalet, the trail meets up with Highline, which you will obviously not take if going to Swiftcurrent Mountain. It splits into a couple different directions. There are great signs however and although we did use a gps, I feel the signs would suffice. It veers left as indicated to Swiftcurrent Pass, then again left to the Mountain/Lookout. We thought the trail was excellent and easy to follow. 👍

Hello, thanks for the great video. It helps me a lot. Form the chalet to the swiftcurrent overlook, is there any steep drop offs or just switchbacks?

Lots of switchbacks. Good trail the entire way. It’s is high though with extreme drop offs at the top. Enjoy!

7:50 These mountains are very wave-like, like the SIerras, the latter also having a 'Granite Park' (near Mt. Julius Ceasar, Lake Italy)

Another awesome video!! Everytime I watch your videos, it makes me add another hike to my "to do" list when I return! Btw, what was the temperature when you folks were heading back down to The Loop? Thanks.

The predicted high temp for that day was near 75 degrees. I believe that was accurate and due to this section being exposed, it felt pretty warm. Frost covered the vegetation in the morning as we hiked through this area; one of the incredibly cool things about Montana hiking in September! Appreciate your comment, thank you!!

Windy almost every day up top. We check the mountain forecast and plan according to that…so we had a day that was not too bad even up high.

We have heard that can be the case. On this day we were thankful for the minimal wind and beautiful skies.

great video! for steepness goes, would u say this was your hardest hike in Glacier that u did or have done?

While total elevation per mile on this hike is a lot, the switchbacks up to the top of Swiftcurrent mountain lessen the blow. It's tough no doubt, and an absolute grind, so to answer your question, yes, it would rank up there with one of the more demanding yet also one of the more rewarding hikes we have done, especially as we did an out and back from the loop. Well worth the next day soreness in my opinion 👍⛰

Great video! After doing this hike do you think it would be possible to add on Grinnell Glacier Overlook? Trying to figure out the distance from the Chalet to the Grinnell Glacier overlook via highline trail
@nolanventures473
@nolanventures473 Жыл бұрын
Have done both on different hikes. If you added the overlook it would add about 1.6 miles and 1,100 feet of elevation gain up to the lookout from the chalet. Then back of course. Can be done - it would be a bear of a hike.

First, love the videos. This EXACTLY what I was looking for in planning for my trip next summer. I like the full trail perspective vs just the photo op pics pieced together to make a video and this one has me thinking I HAVE to do this trail. I am not super experienced with hiking however, if I am in peak physical condition (I begin elevation training soon), how doable is this trail for a less experienced hiker in terms of handling the terrain and obstacles?

@@nolanventures473 one other question; is it realistic to start at the Loop, as you did, then finish at Many Glacier via the Swiftcurrent Pass?
