I wanna thank you for posting the videos of both of your trips. I was looking to find a good route to go in late June, with less snow and found this video and I decided to give it a shot. I just got back from doing the same route over 6 days, 6/23 to 6/28. It was beautiful! I can't thank you enough for your wonderfully detailed videos and gorgeous pictures that helped inspire me to give it a go myself. Keep em coming!

Andrew Kay You're very welcome and I'm glad you were able to do the same trip so early in the season. I'm envious! I did hear it was a 'low snow' year in the Glacier area, so it sounds like that might have worked to your advantage this year. My only regret from our trip is that we weren't able to get into the Hole-in-Wall/Boulder Pass area due to deep snow and dangerous trails in that area, but then it gives us one more reason to go back. I'm currently in final preparations for a quick weekend+ trip to the Four Pass Trail near Aspen, CO this upcoming weekend - video coming soon after. Congratulations on your Glacier trip!

This is the video that started it all for me. David, I have watched this video nearly 10 times over the last 6 years. This video was the reason I created my channel. Thank you so much for the great content, and safe trails this year!

You're very welcome, and I've probably watched that video myself about 20 times (typically in the winter when I need a little Glacier emotional 'lift'). That was a great trip, and the cool thing was I got to re-live some of that hike when I got back to Glacier in 2018. I'm hoping for another Glacier permit in 2021, and maybe I'll be getting back to the North Fork/Goat Haunt area again soon.

@@davidgrayin My buddies and I were fortunate enough to do a 5 night North Circle route trip in 2019. I was able to snag a few nights on the Teton Crest Trail this Summer, which should be a fantastic trip. I'm very much looking forward to filming that area. I hope you have some great trips planned, and I look forward to the videos!

Thanks for the memories. I traveled a very similar route with Glacier Guides in August. Took the boat down to Goat Haunt, crossed the same river on the Boulder trail and camped next to the river the first night and then on to Lake Francis/Hawksville campsite the second night and then to Bowman HD campsite on the third night and exited the next day at the end of Bowman Lake. On the way back to West Glacier we stopped at the Polebridge Mercantile store. A very spectacular hike only we did not have a skeeter problem. Started out on August 8th. Thanks again for the video.

awesome great job showing off the area, exact same trip i did up there except stayed at lk janet coming in & spectacular francis on way out! Like many bckpacks attempted up there I ended up with a different amazing trip than planned as upper kintla to brown pass was closed due to a carcass three grizzlys were consuming. Guess that will be for next time! Actually ran into the three brothers who I believe were the last through before it closed at head of bowman on their last day; Having a pretty scary recall of hearing growling from far off, not knowing what or where it came from before looking over a ravine & seeing the sight! Not looking up from their meal, hair raised & warnings issued

All I can say is 'go for it'. They grow up way too fast, and before you know it you're on the 'outside' looking in, in terms of your kid's lives. My advice would be take advantage of every moment you can that they want to be with you, and in my opinion the moments in the woods are more impactful than most. If there is anything I can do to help in terms of information or advice just let me know.

Boy, your comments are spot on! That is exactly the feeling I got when hiking in Glacier. Overwhelming vastness and feeling 'small' at the start followed up with a feeling that you can never get enough of it, ending with sadness that it ever has to end. Nice! Thank you.

Your videos are fantastic! I live in Minnesota where we call the mosquito the state bird. I am highly allergic to their bites and they love me. I will do anything to avoid a bite including DEET but Coleman makes a DEET free odorless product that works called Coleman Skin Smart Go Ready Spray Pen that is .5 oz. In heavy bug areas you might use 1 per day. Thank you for taking the extra time and effort to share such great trips!

You did a good job on these videos.. I've been to Glacier five times but haven't done the back country yet. We are working on a plan for a trip next year. We are thinking about going much of the route you went except we want to leave from Kintla Lake and see Boulder Pass. Then on to Goat Haunt to Elizabeth lake and out at Many Glacier. I haven't really figured out what to do with transportation from Many Glacier back to Kintla yet because I don't think the shuttles will run up North Fork Road but we'll figure something out..Thanks.

Hi David, We are will be in Glacier next week (7/28-8/8) and are going to try to get a walk-in backcountry permit for the Northern Circle so that we can try to incorporate our Granite Park chalet stay on our 5th night in the backcountry. We got an advanced permit that starts us at the Canadian border/northeast section of the park....not our first choice, and it's only a 3 night trip, so we are going try to get our first choice via walk-in permit. (We have nothing to lose! ...except sleep, but that's what afternoon naps are for!) We technically have a reserved first night on the Northern Circle if we hike the 13 miles from the Iceberg Lake trailhead and stay at Gable Creek, which is our first night of our advanced reservation and we also have our 5th night reserved because we have a reservation at the Chalet, so we only need the 2, 3, and 4th nights. We know that the Many Glacier area is extremely popular and that we pretty much need to be the first in line to get one of the few remaining campsites that will be available for that trip. I was wondering....when you arrived at your permit location at around 4am, were you the only ones there? I'm kinda worried about not being first in line and wondering if we should be there at 3:30am just to be safe? (We will be going to the Apgar backcountry office.) What do you think? We have backup permit trip plans and backup plans for the backup plan! We really just want something that will be a little more logistically friendly than what we got with our advanced permit. Any advice you could offer would be great! This will be our first time in Glacier, but the third time I've planned out this trip (first 2 times had to be canceled due to school and surgery, so I'm super excited!) I love your videos! Thanks for sharing!
