I’ve been bass fishing for over 40 years and am just starting to get into big bait’s… I figure I’ve caught hundreds 2-4lb bass and only a handful around 7-8lbs. I think it’s about time I learn a different technique and go for some 10+ lb bass. I don’t think I’d be happy hanging up my rods one day without at least trying. Butch is an inspiration as well as all of you guys out there dedicated to the big bait game🏄🏼‍♂️🎣🤙

Pretty cool legacy! I built my own bass boat from the Sears catalog in early 90’s and fished Irvine Lake. That lake got loads of trout week after week. I used Mann’s 30+ deep divers and people thought I was nuts, they’re right but when I started hauling in lunkers and release them after a dip in some anti fungal and slime generator from my portable livewell they scrambled through their puny tackle to only be disappointed……… I still have many of those baits and take great care of them. Thank you for sharing your story, it means a lot!

Hey Butch, I fished the lower lake almost every day and night in the 1980s before the craziness. I caught a 20 lber from the first swim beach in 1985. If i would have kep it , my name would be in there with crupi, torres and Arujo's basses. Id have to say the best peak years were 1988-1991. There were so many 15-20 lbers in there back then before the madness and stripers got in there around 1992. I'm surprised we never met, considering I was a regular at lower Castaic for more than a decade. But i was a non boater. We ran in different circles. I was a member of the west valley bassmasters in Canoga Park, late 1980s briefly, until i moved up to the antelope valley. Before i moved up there, Me and a few friends would come up from Northridge and fish all night, before the fences and security. We fished at night from the beaches there, and had some nights most bass fishermen could only dream of. Some nights we would walk up and down almost to the spillway, catch 12, 15 pound bass every other cast. We mostly threw huge Manns electric blue and purple jelly worms on jig heads. It was incredible fishing for a few years back then. I moved out of there around 1993 to fish the stripers on the Colorado river.. now I'm in Tennessee chasing 50 lb stripers, using only swim and glide baits. The last 50 pound striper i got was up in the Sacramento delta in the mid 1990s. That's my goal here in E. Tennessee, another 50. Thanx for all your expertise on the subject..

Pure gold. I've met and talked to Butch maybe 5 times. Anglers Marine and Fred Hall. Just a cool guy to talk to. A legit legend. Tossed my pops a Deps 175 after his seminar. Dad gave it to me. I still haven't opened it. It's like treasure. Amazing vid. Hope all is well Butchy B.

Crazy how that little boat has probably seen more large bass than any pro fisherman boat u can think of and just shows its not about having the fanciest stuff but the knowledge and time on the water that makes butch who he is and the ability to do what he does. An he almost reminds me of Doug hannon in a way. By the way he just talks about bass fishing and the fact he uses this small boat and not some crazy setup and It doesn't even look like he has livescope just an older graph.

They are. Some rods are designed that way. I forgot the purpose though.

@@kongvang4132 Probably has to do with how the spine of the rod loads. So the guides "pull" down on the rod, like a spinning rod would instead of the guides "pushing" down on the rod like a casting rod does.
