I've run into Butch dozens of times fishing the Lagoon, he took the time to talk to my son extensively on one of our fishing trips there, what a classy dude he is. He really is a LEGEND. This is a great piece on a really great guy and it just reminds me of the good we can share when we take the time to slow down a little.

I am in my early 60’s now and go out often with swimbaits these days. My most productive time has been prespawn when the bass were feeding up for the spawn. Is there a season “not” to throw big swimbaits? During the spawn and just after, they seem to have no interest it seems.

It depends where you live, but basically there's a swimbait on the market for every season. At times, a person has to adapt, but a swimbait can draw a bite 365. During the dog days of summer ( like right now ) is a very productive time of year even at night. Good luck

What makes California have a large number of double digit bass more then any other state. In most states you are lucky if you can get a double digit bass, but it looks normal in California

It used to be more normal back in the day. A 10lbs bass is still verrry good and a rare fish in California. The reason they are so big out here is cuz it’s a Florida strain bass and they used to plants lots of trout and the bass would eat them.
