Hallands Menved thank you for that sentiment! Farmers with the governments backing have admitted to killing millions of wildlife to protect their money/farmed animals. They invade open land where wildlife have the only places to live and destroy their habitat and sources of food and then expect them to quietly die of hunger and give up on surviving nicely?

If you include hares in that question, yes they're everywhere. Antarctica is the only continent where there are no lagomorphi (family of hares, rabbits and pikas), and in Austronesia they are non-indigenous but unfortunately humans have brought them there to misbalance the biotopes.

As a teenager in Montgomery,Alabama, I witnessed something amazing! I saw one of these rabbits (the locals called swamp buck rabbits) that some beagle hounds were chasing run by me at about 20 feet away and dive headfirst into a swamp lake and disappear under water much like a beaver. It never reappeared and I assumed that it swam over into some nearby weeds to resurface and must've barely stuck its nose above the water to breath and stay hidden! I never heard of anyone else mention seeing this but myself. They can definitely swim underwater!

Would be interesting to see how these rabbits continue to evolve. They may have continued to grow, to become deer sized perhaps. Or they could have adapted more and more to swimming and finding food in the water. Very interesting.

People are so misinformed about domestic rabbits so please do not watch this video and think you can get your domestic rabbit wet. Their fur has a hard time drying and they can die of pneumonia very quickly.

They would overbreed and use up all the resources in the environment. Predators keep herbivores in check.

Instead of sleeping skimming through KZbin and this is in que. Gonna watch it. Are swamp rabbits related to jackrabbits?... 🐇

Both Swamp rabbits and Jackrabbit are lagomorphs. However, jackrabbits are actually hares and not rabbits. Swamp rabbits are part of the cottontail genus, Sylvilagus. Jackrabbits are part of the hare genus, Lepus.

We have these rabbits where I hunt in sc . These rabbits are huge !!!! First time I saw one 25 years ago I couldn’t believe how big they were . At that time I had never heard of swamp rabbits . I don’t see them as much as I used too but when I do see them there is no question what it is .

Here in the Ms Delta we used to have bunches of these. We call them Cane Cutters and Swampers. Twice the size of the little Cotton Tails. Now? You are lucky to see one at all.
