Good job man, as a retired poolman I have come across this many times. I mainly did commercial pools but also residential, I can't tell you how many times I was flagged down by a desperate home owner who said her poolman stopped servicing the pool, it is green and they are having a pool party in 2 days. Everything this guy did was spot on with the only one exception. I would return the next day to do a complete filter clean cuz if you have algae in the pool shell you also have it in the filter tank and you have to get rid of it. The best part was picking up the check and having the homeowner praise you and thank you.

On a DE or Cartridge, it would be a given for me to tear down and clean the filter. For this one I ran some sodium-hypo through the filter and did a big (actually several) backwash

Jesse if you add that much chlorine how would it be swimmable in two days? I know it burns off but does neutralizing all the algae also use enough of the free chlorine to making it safe to swim again?

@Simon Waddington yes Simon. It takes a lot of chlorine to turn a algae green pool around. With algaecide eats up a lot of the chlorine. After filter clean, let pump run 24hrs. Check chlorine level next day, vacuum up the dead algae to waste if you can. Then adjust ph and chlorine level. Should be good to go in 2 days at least. If chlorine level still high. Knock it down with some Thiotrine.

Glad you mentioned circulation as a major factor in the results, I once worked at an apartment complex that let its pool pumps get into disrepair and they barely circulated the water in the pools, so getting them clean and stopping the growth of algae was a constant battle and ultimately a losing one given that they barely had enough people to do all the work. No matter how good you are at cleaning these, the owner still has to be on top of maintaining all the important equipment.

cool vid, reminds me of my days of treating pools back in San Antonio TX. we didnt use an algaecide back then , we used chlorine gas and with fresh water we add a stabilizer . i remember i went out to treat a green one and by the time i was done adding chlorine it had turned blue .. pretty cool stuff ... we would also plug the skimmer and run it from the main drain to clear it up after brushing ...

It only cleared up that fast because all the water was new from a fresh fill and only 2 weeks of missed chemical service. It doesn’t take very much algae to give that bright green color. A few more weeks and it will turn dark green and then black - that takes several days to fix

Some chemicals are specifically designed to go into the skimmer but most are best diluted into the main pool - important to know the difference. You don’t see equipment failure immediately but a pool inspector can find early evidence of damage in just a few months of chemical corrosion

Interesting choice on the poly algicide. My go-to was always silver, though I've been out of the game for a while. Been there done that though, algicide + chlorine + clarifier means murky green to crystal clear in a couple hours. Give it some time to burn off the excess chlorine and good to go :D

Shock or any algasides aren't needed in my opinion. I've been doing pools 13 years in SW FL. Regular chems will take care of any bloom no problem. Cool it changed color so fast. But its gotta filter out still and he spent alot of $$ on that stop! 2 jugs and some acid would have knocked that out overnight..
@andrewharrison5740
@andrewharrison5740 4 жыл бұрын
@@Eagle1538 completely agree. I never use algaecide myself. Just liquid chlorine and time to filter it out with a few backwashes/cleanings in between to help it along. Lowering the pH does help too. People really overestimate what chemicals are necessary for a clean pool. In my own pool I just use liquid chlorine, and muriatic acid when necessary to lower pH. That's it. My pool is so clear, you could throw a quarter into the deep end and still read the date, lol.

How’s your water? Have you had a full test done on it yet? How long are you running your filter pump? Are the skimmer, main Drain, and Returns set so there are no dead spots? How’s the filter? What type of filter do you have? When was the last time maintenance was done on it? It sounds like you guys are trying to get to the bottom of this so the questions I’m posing are they places and things you need to look at to solve the algae issue. Let me know and maybe we can get you a little closer to solving the issue.

I just purchased a house with a pool and the previous owner installed jets that point 1 direction. It seems like the entire center of the pool doesn't have any flow to it at all should I point them all down or change them to jets that flow straight out?

How long before you can use it after adding that much acid? Seems like it would take quite a while to be OK for swimming again.

my pool tech just uses R2 reagent to test our chlorine. is that the right way to do it. i never see him use the r1 with the r2 at the same time

So, is it safe to jump in? Or is there still more to the process?
@SwimmingPoolAZ-SPS

The chlorine had plummeted to 0 by the next day due to the low stabilizer and the algae so I had to bring that up. Water was clear and blue though so it was ready after I adjusted the chlorine.

what I'm curious about is, forgive me if I missed that part, how long did they have to wait until it was safe to swim in?

Need to test the water to make sure chlorine levels are safe. 3-5 ppm is good. CA wants it as high as 10 ppm.

Can I ask why you used an algaecide when Sodium Hypochlorite would have dealt with the algae anyway? Thanks.
@SwimmingPoolAZ-SPS
@SwimmingPoolAZ-SPS 3 жыл бұрын
Supplementing with an algaecide can speed up the process as they tend to attack the algae in different ways than the chlorine. Also, Sodium-Hypo dissipates very quickly where the algaecide will stay in the water and work longer. It’s sort of like preparing for a battle with an army. Sure you could just throw ground troops at the enemy but you can also call in an air strike to help the troops get the job done. In short it can be done with just bleach but adding the right algaecide means lugging less bottles and a speedier recovery.

I did chlorine and fluculent 4 days ago and filtering none stop but my water is still slightly milky and chlorine high... I feel like it should be clear now. Just had my sand replaced with glass which should work better but I'm not seeing it..can I speed it up somehow.

Give the filter some time to clear things up. If it’s still cloudy after a few days you can try a clairifier.

Can you do this method with a salt water pool?

I would advise unplugging the salt cell, or replacing the salt cell with a dummy pipe until the pool is cleared up.

About how long from the start of adding the chemicals to finish, did this take? I used Algatec last year after watching this for a mild algae issue, and it worked well. This year my parents (who live 70 miles away) let their pool get cloudy without telling me. Now it's green and the wost it's ever looked. I currently have the chemistry balanced.
