How Do I Know if My Pump is Working Properly?

From www.swimmingpo... - How do you know if your swimming pool pump is working properly? The first thing to do is to look and listen to your pool pump. Does it look or sound unusual? You should know roughly how your pump sounds and what it looks like when it is running so you can tell if there is anything off.
When looking through the pump lid you should see it full of water and little to no air bubbles. There should be only water visible. If you listen to the pump when it is running, does it sound good or is there any odd noises? If a pump is starved for water it could be making gurgling noises or even sound like there are rocks tumbling around inside. Double check the water level in your pool to make sure that the level is high enough to be reaching the skimmer and or other suction ports. Check the weir door on the skimmer the make sure it is not stuck shut which does not allow enough water into the suction line to keep the pump running properly.
Check the pool filter gauge to see what the current pressure is. If it is not at a normal pressure level, this could be a symptom of the pool pump not running properly. The first thing is turn off the system and check all of the pool valves to ensure they are in the ON position. If there are any valves in the OFF position, turn it back to ON so the pool pump will get the water it needs to run properly.
