I split my portfolio 75/25 .... 75% of my capital is reserved for my swing trades and the other 25% is used for my day trading. I find that having some "change" to play around with in day trades, reduces my urge to interfere with my swing trades through being impatient. It works for me.

There are SO many books, websites and blogs about trading it is overwhelming for this newbie. Day Trading for Canadians for Dummies has been helpful in breaking it all down, but even in that beginning book, they make reference to things they don't define. Thanks Markus, I found this video very helpful (and I just started reading your awesome book). I've watched one of my trading buddies day trade the e-minis and he routinely makes $300 to $400 in an hour or so and then stops for the rest of the day. I'm going to take a better look at it. But swing trading will always be my go to for speculating and investing. Cheers.

I'm coming from the old school philosophy of "Time IN the market, not timing the market" (i.e. set it & forget it). That was until 2009 when all of my time in the market evaporated. Over the past 5-6 years I've accelerated from a 40yr expected ROI to a 2-3 year turn around. I've been careful & have picked mostly winners but the idea of actively trading & taking profits is new to me & I've since began to strategize a 30 - 90 day cycle. With yours mentorship I'm feeling confident about condensing that cycle to a 5 - 20 day swing cycle. I guess it's another interpretation of your "high-jumping bar" analogy except it's not the size of the trade/return but rather the duration of the trade & return. Matty, I agree 100%: Back in the days, especially in the 90s and early 2000s, "buy and hold" worked perfectly. But these days, markets are more connected than ever and "jumpy". Sep and Oct 2021 are a perfect example for that. So YES: I believe that these days a trader who knows how to swing trade shorter term cycles will outperform a "buy and hold" trader. 👍

I do both. When I see a stock that has snail paced potential but potential nonetheless, I throw it into my swing trade bin. When I see a stock good for day trade, I day trade it.

Hi Alias, I personally find swing trading easier than day trading. And YES, you definitely should have a trading strategy. That doesn't mean you have to be an expert, but without a proven trading strategy, it will be SUPER difficult to make money. That's a great question. And to be honest: i don't know. Even the "98% of day trader lose money" statement has rarely been backed up with data. But often Day Traders ave a gambling mentality, while swing traders seem to have a plan about what to do. Therefore, I would assume that the percentage of swing traders who lose money is lower. Would you agree?
