Very informative -I had similar issues. In began when after 25 yrs(53 age now) of being both a golfer and a club builder I figured out I needed mid size grips. I was reluctant to switch both because of the weight of the midsize heavier grips (which I fell in love almost instantly both because of the extra weight and size)........... and the fact that at 53 I now needed graphite/high launch shafts which further created a SW problem.
@MississippiWopGenius3964 жыл бұрын
Both problems created SW challenges. What worked for me (using crazy wop math lol) was finding heavier high launch graphite shafts for both woods and irons. These were hard to find btw. The key for me was switching to one length/85-95 gram shafts/ cobra f7's pw-7 iron which I made to a 6 iron length. I used normal length/weight club heads on my 6 iron, hybrid 5 iron, and 7 wood, and a 4 wood.
@MississippiWopGenius3964 жыл бұрын
I bent 3 52* wedges (standard weight) and created 3 wedges at L,SW,GW the length of a 8 iron(d-9 to e-0 sw) with 105 gram aldilia nv iron shafts, and my one length cobra f7s pw-7 are about a 6 iron length with matrix shafts in the 9-7 and a 95 gram nv in my pw. With a 65 gram grip/and 85-95 gram graphite shafts I got around d-3 or so in those f7 cobras (my sw scale is a relic). Long story short. For the most part you have to just go longer to get higher SW's. Like you said adding weight to the head alters the design of the club- which never worked for me. If I could have a custom set made-I would prefer the one length based on a 8 iron instead of 7 so I could make all the clubs a 7 iron length and have the higher SW I prefer.

Hi Jim. I understand the balance thing . It makes sense. Two questions overall weight versus swing weight and why is the number 14 with regards to the fulcrum used? Another words why the number 14?

Great video. As always. Wondering if i installed Jumbomax tour size small grips to each of my clubs(PXG 0311 gen3)… what would be the suggested fix to rebalance the club? Lead tape? Or adjusting the tip weighting? Or both?

Love the new intro! This guy must have gone to club champion for his fitting 😬 throw a 14g brass tip weight in there and maybe see if he was cool with using a Pure grip since they are a lot lighter in their midsize grips... I have also found metal ferrules that can do the trick expect most of the time they have to be reamed out to fit the shaft
@guitaristbiker4 жыл бұрын
I thought kbs shafts had a little higher balance point too which would lighten swingweight and work against someone needing or preferring a heavier swingweight, i built my current set of mizunos to a d6 with dg x100's from 6-56, dg S400 @ d6 in 60deg and d5 4-5, but im a big strong guy and gained way more head and face control that way, no speed loss

Hey I would like to be fitted to my P790 iron's. I bought them 2yrs ago put I think the shafts are wrong for me . I always played a stiff shaft but after 6 surgeries I bought these in a regular grafitte will it be cheaper to buy new clubs or just get new shafts after I get fitted

Hi, I have a mizuno st190 3 wood head which has a swing weight stuck in it, is there any way this could be removed as it was left in the head when the shaft was removed, any help would be much appreciated, great videos by the way.

most weight are made from lead and can easily be drilled out. A little heat from the butane torch wont hurt either

Does adding all that mass to the head make the flex play softer?
@larryyoung91064 жыл бұрын
When using tip adapters on .335 shafts, how do you determine shaft tipping to retain the correct flex? Most .335 shafts have about 4" of tipping area, I know that any time you cut a shaft you are stiffening the shaft, but when you are tipping how much are you adjusting the kickpoint and changing the dynamic of the shaft? Thanks for the information you share on You Tube.
@McGolf4 жыл бұрын
I add the head to it too. It’s combo thing. The kick point is in a fixed position on the shaft. When you tip you typically get closer to it but not an appreciable amount

If the spec of the clubs (head/shaft/grip) to be built for the person wanted after the fitting turning out to be so hard to attain in a D6 what was the chances they were actually swinging a D6 at the fitting? Were they adding lead tape to the clubs at the fitting till he was happy? I've never seen on a youtube video fitting a fitter ever mention swing weight or offer to customize it.
@guitaristbiker4 жыл бұрын
krusher74 all the time, fitters like txg's youtube channel, theyre going to start with std stuff to figure out the players tendencies, but then if the player needs more overally weight or neds more swingweight to influence their swing and delivery the right way then they'll adjust

@@guitaristbiker i have never seen them cover that in a video
@guitaristbiker4 жыл бұрын
krusher74 atleast in one txg's most recent videos where their doing a cobra vs callaway driver bracket challange, matt the golfer uses like d3 and above swingweight and they mention litterally how they put lead tape on the driver to take it up in swingweight as its a light head, then that if it wins which it did that they would hot melt the head to take it to a heavier swingweight, theyre pretty popular on youtube right now for golf channels 🤷🏻♂️

Do you do club fittings there at your place? I am only an hour away ... i have a nice set of Ping G25 irons that i would like fitted for me, they are standard
@waqarghulam35483 жыл бұрын
Just hold the club at the head end, it feels light and you can swing it faster. There you go, lower swing weight for faster swing speed.
@blacklight44604 жыл бұрын
It's a PITA to add all that swing weight with std length clubs without changing the head When it's your own clubs, lead tape on the head works fine. Luckily, I use the superlight jumbo Winns w/4 wraps on +1/2" S300s to get a higher D6-7 iron swing wt. That also softens the shaft about 1/3 flex, but I'm old. Most heavy jumbo grips will do the opposite, making the club swing stiffer and taking away head feel . A light wt shaft with a low balance point increases swing weight, shaft location awareness and head-feel on a lighter overall club.
@axnjxn914 жыл бұрын
Black Light who can stand lead tape on good looking clubheads? I know I can’t. I wonder why they don’t make solid tungsten tip weights, they would be smaller and you could get heavier weights at a reasonable form factor.
@blacklight44604 жыл бұрын
@@axnjxn91 Golfsmith used to sell solid tungsten tip weights for their heads that had a space for them. Solid tip weights are limited in size range, change the feel and move the COG closer to the hosel, closing the face easier. Might be good for the player, might not, but not what the club designer intended. That's why I don't like the chunky adjustable hosels. The ugly lead tape can be put anywhere on the back of the head. Plenty of tour pros use it to get the feel and performance they are after. I shot my best score with old '83 Titleist Tour blades with huge wads of lead tape on them and XX stiff Rifle shafts (8.0), getting them to D-5-6. No way you can buy those specs off the rack or even from a Ping custom fit. You usually can't see lead tape in the playing position. If I add weight to a head, I want it to benefit the feel and sense of where the sweetspot is with my eyes closed, for more center face hits. Tip weights can't do that.

Great content - quick question, should my clubs all be the same swing weight..? I recently check it and I have my irons at I think D1, my hybrid and fairways at C9 and my driver at D3... would making them all D1 improve consistency..?

No the irons can and should be close the hybrid, driver and wedge can all be Fbp different as they have different jobs

Did you ask the guy if the club he was fitted to a 90 gram shaft and came it at D-6? The customer probably got fitted to D-6 with a much heavier shaft, 120-130 grams. The topic that imo should be discussed is the idea that most players fit into D-2 or D-3 SW. The reason D-2 or D-3 is the accepted norm in the industry is because it helps the OEMs mass produce crap cast irons and save money. In my experience, most stronger players (95 + CHS with the driver) actually fit to a heavier swing weight, often D-5, D-6 or even D-7 or 8 (for the 6 or 7 iron). Beyond that, MOI matching a set of irons is far superior to swing weight matching anyway. It's not as popular because the OEMs use swing weight as a standard (D-2), and it takes way more work to MOI match a set, which usually involves taking weight out of the longer irons and adding weight to the short irons. The static measurement of heft on a 14 inch fulcrum (which is what swing weight is) is not a very good measurement of a set of irons that vary a half inch in length from club to club.
