A few people have tried to argue with me that Thomas Blacharz is overrated, and I can't quite see that based on his legacy of Lindy Hop contribution. I want to see if this Lindy Hop performance by Thomas and Carole lives up to my expectations.

Anyone who has been around the Lindy Hop dance community for any period of time knows that the art is entirely governed by a relatively small number of universal principles.
What is less known is exactly what those principles are and how a student is supposed to learn them.
Traditionally, instructors expose their students to thousands of moves over several years with the expectation that, at some point, they will “figure out” what the principles are.
The problem is that most students “drown” in techniques for years, and never decipher the principles with any degree of significance and clarity.
Principle-based Learning will help you make sense of every technique you are exposed to past, present, and future.
You’ll waste less time in the frustration zone, and spend more time in the flow zone.
The content you will learn in the Street Smart Swing membership will help you learn instantly what it took me over 10,000 of dancing to figure out.

Thanks for the constant content! Love to see someone breaking down dances that I just see on a whim searching for the next sick lindy hop move! Just some constructive criticism I guess as an intermediate dancer, it would be dope if like explained more about the technicality in specific moves that they are doing for the lesser experience. It is okay to pause the video once in a while. Regardless, keep at it, can't wait for you to get to some of my favorite dances of all time (at least ones I've seen on the Internet).

Thanks for watching. Most of the how to in depth observations I provide for members of my S3 community. Each week we go over specific breakdowns to help you become a better technical and creative dancer. Anytime you have a recommendation of a video you’d like me to review let me know I might get to it🙃

Blanchard is out of shape here (still amazing and incredibile enjoinable), search for some old videos, the time when he was dancing with Alice Mei and you will be astonished! He is one of my favourites, if not the first one.

I am 5 weeks into attending my small-town club’s weekly swing dances and I’m definitely hooked. I agree somewhat that this video is enticing for this naive viewer, but it’s also technically overwhelming, and there’s a moment that almost spoils the mood for me. Favorite moment: 2:32 when he pulls her into that backwards slide. It’s elegant and seems like a level of mastery and communication that is distant but maybe achievable. Least favorite: 3:05 grabbing her shoulders - I got no fun vibes from that at all. Ick.

I liked that backwards slide too, looks like a different way too do a WCS Locked whip leading it from one side with the bonus of the slide makes it a lot cooler.

Something else to mention on that locked-whip / backslide. Often followers get a single shoulder lead to turn and this is very common in Latin dance. Thomas was precise enough in his lead to lead her straight back despite being perpendicular to her which easily could have induced rotation from that position. Carole was also perceptive to not automate to a rotation feeling a hand on her shoulders. I think a lot of dancers who have done Salsa would have automated to a turn as soon as they felt a hand on their shoulder.

For the move at 3:05 grabbing her shoulders, Frankie Manning did a similar move but with the hands at the hips (see video below). It was taught to me in LH camps in the 1990's. It's one of those go to steps you can use if you feel out of breath. I think leading it from the hip like Frankie did is probably more comfortable. When I use it, I mostly do it from my left to her right hand hold the visible cue is enough if she misses the first hop, she will catch the following ones. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqK3g2edmp6omcU
