I would class myself as a 'Level 1' DIY enthusiast. With this video, i was able to do this entire job on my 2007 GSX-R 750 and i also had the shock rebuilt and with an appropriate lighter spring. Bought a LOAD of tools including an industrial press (love that thing) for the cushion level bearings...makes thins SO much easier. I have just finished putting the swingarm back together including the lower linkages...SO tight but so glad I have replaced it all. Thanks for the great video content. You aren't available in the UK but please consider expanding overseas and I would have happily purchased all the parts from your site. Thanks again John!

Swingarm bearing removal was successfull with a Blind bearing tool using a stout metal rod. Tightened the collet into the bearing and using a stout metal rod from the other side used the collet as the striking surface, drove the bearing out in a minute. I heated the swingarm bearing area before. Used the same method for the cushion bearings as well.

I had to do the exact same thing. Slide hammer wasnt moving the bearing, and even a puller wasnt working. Tried with a rod from the other side and it was just pushing the collet out - finally heated the area for 5 minutes before hand and that did the trick. Wish I had read your comment earlier!

Good video... I drove my old bearings out with a punch... pretty easy with a heavy hammer.. BUT the center tube that acts as a spacer for the bearings is soft aluminum and gets damaged by the punch. So if you plan on driving them out, you will need a new center tube along with the new bearings. Keep up the great videos! Jeremy

To be honest. I think it's better to pay a professional such as yourself than to go out get all the tools and do it myself.. I did not expect swing arm bearings to be such a task. Thank you for the video.

Ive done this a few times putting extended arms on. I chose one time to re use the pivot bearings and swap them over to the new arm instead of just paying $30 for new ones installed.I can tell you I did not have that fancy tool to remove them and walked right into a nightmare. I believe it took about an hour to get them both out by hand... Def buy the tool if they have to be removed lol

Hi I had to do some needle roller bearing on a Honda leaver arm but all the needle rollers had come out so I was left with just the outer part of the bearing so I used a dermal grinder with a grind stone I cut some groove to the casing so then I could force the outer casing to collapse in on itself to get the bearing but used a draw bolt system to put the new needle roller bearing in

Perhaps a comment about WHY the swingarm bearings would need to be replaced please John Tally.
@maselbac3 жыл бұрын
Slide hammer didn't work for me. Wasn't enough 'slide' to get the momentum to pull the bearings. I ended up putting the collet in the bearings and using a bar from the other side. Tapped out nice with a club hammer

Why did you have to grind the chain, by removing the rear wheel and the center nut holding the swing arm will obviously remove the chain.
@jimmcconville6244 жыл бұрын
please link the specific tool that you used to remove the bearings from the swingarm. i have been purchasing tools for 2 weeks and cannot get anything that will grab the bearings and pull them out of the swingarm

My service manual doesn't say that I have to disconnect the drive chain to take off the swing arm. Is it necessary to remove the drive chain? If I have to remove the chain, that would mean I would have to buy a new master link, right? I don't use clip ons.

Yes, you can use a new rivet link.
