I enjoy the description of how to read the water and the equipment that is being used to fish it. This is always informative and has upped my game. Thanks

Nice video, great info on reading the water. Fishing with Renegade rod and commando head is definitely a delight. Keep up the great work.

Agreed that I rarely fish an integrated line for steelhead. The exception is fishing a 15' type 3 tip on a type 3 game changer to cover big skeena tailouts in the spring. It's very comfortable on an 8140 Winston. The rest of the time it's a chinook line.

Thank you for another great video. I really enjoy the "realness" of your outings (broken rods, no steelhead, cold hands, etc.). I broke an Echo spey rod on the Deschutes a few years ago - this was definitely my fault. I live close to Vancouver so just took it to their location. They replaced it right there and loaded me down with Echo swag - including Echo prayer flags. I fully credit these flags with making a highly impactful - yet completely imperceptible - impact on my steelhead success rate! One thing that I might add for you to consider in upcoming videos. Maybe in these videos you could devote some time - if only a few seconds - to encourage people to devote energy and money towards conservation of this great resource. With returns on most of the NW rivers at 5% of their historic runs, it's truly now or never. With ever better tackle, technique, gear and flies - along with all the environmental challenges, there is much work to do. There are a lot of good groups doing a lot of good work in what can feel like a stacked deck. Encouraging your audience to get involved can only help! Thanks again for your content. Tight lines! JS

The rod braking is because I think the blank have had impact in the past. Under transport or in the boat sometime before! That's my guess...... I use a lot of Hardy rod's and Loop as it a Swedish company.... I have build some rod's my self and got hold of some good blanks made in Japan nano carbon IM12 46ton. Light and fast action. Sad for the rod lost 😪

Nah. He's got casting deficiencies, which is why he breaks so many rods.

Hi guys 😁 About the scandi 3D line's. We fish those a lost in Norway for salmon! The run in Norway is way different from what you swing There. One side is deep and fast and what is deep 10-30ft for most part. Fish do not stand at the bottom and salmon hanging higher up in water then steelhead. I be glad take you over there sometime...... I also fish the commando head. But try Guideline compact scandi 3D give it a try. And if you pick same grain weight you can do the same cast as the commando! My lines are like 23-27ft Inc tip so it's not longer then the commando head system... Only thing is you must switch the whole head as long you not pic the multi tip version then it is basically a skagit system slightly lighter. Maybe. In Scandinavia I then to fish 3-5tip or 5-6tip. And we fish lots of tube flies and most of them has conehead! I do like your videos a lot. I remember when I did lived I US I did fish Deshutes and Clear water. From a boat or draft. I ofcourse fish short rod's as 10,6' to 11,6' but in the high banks of Norway I still prefer the long rod's of 15-16' and full sinking lines. Rio game changer 3-5 plus a 10' T18 tip swing slow and deep when needed to. As long as the depth is below 10' I like your way fish nothing wrong with that style. So the structure of the river diced how deep to swing to achieve the right depth for the run. 👍 for your videos as always best regards from Sweden 🇸🇪 Scandinavia

im a noob fly fisherman and have done tons of reading on leaders like connections etc. the part im hanging my self up on is..... what kind of fly line. i fish water that looks like that ranging from 5-15 feet. do i want floating line. floating line with sinking tip... or sinking line?? if i could get past that hump i feel like i would be more confident of a fly fisher.

In terms of fighting power would a 6wt Spey 13’ have similar fighting power as an 9’ 8wt single hand?

The gear doesn’t make that big a difference to me. The fly in the water as much as possible is the key. Fish being present is also a must. A lot of the steelhead have been poached.

With all due respect for your sincere integrity and energy… put on any skagit ahead of a t-11 tip..any fly and keep your hands out ya pockets :) its beyond cliche at this point and ur gonna face plant Hooking steelheads…You can’t make it happen …knowledge, psychology, skill and all the trimmings won’t help you ..that’s the first step There are no tweaks , mends , flys , gear, lines or clothing that will get you more Fish good water well and take ur knocks until it happens you cannot fish a fly “broadside” .. I know it seems that you can using a belly in the line ….the commentary with regards to this is painful.. without tension it’s certainly possible that your fly will be horizontal to current but as soon as you swing/put tension on it the fly is ass first I’m not trying to yuk ur yum and I’m jealous you get to swing so much good water Thanks for the video
