This song was released on Bob's third album, and second album of original music, THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN'. It is a masterpiece. Several of the best songs on the album were taken from stories Bob found in newspapers of the time: The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, Only A Pawn in Their Game, The Ballad of Hollis Brown, North Country Blues, and really, the title song are all based on Newspaper stories.

Haute Whispers Yeah, that’s the only known clip of it. It was a 35mm film recorded in the living room of a family home the night it was aired. The footage is still lost, but those few seconds exist thanks to coincidence. They taped over the footage, a common practice in television in those days. Same goes with Dylan at BBC studios in ‘65. Very sad.

This is really interesting. Even today, in 2022, in South Dakota, there is a certain type of person who relies heavily on shotguns. Our present Governor often has herself pictured wielding a shotgun.

I bet her children aren’t so hungry that they don’t know how to smile. Not that I would want them to be, but why would she need a gun? Being a well protected polie, I would have thought that she wouldn’t need to carry a gun.

Started with the Nina Simone version. I’m not going to compare apples to oranges. Both are captivating and it’s just a great song.
