Swirling( Effects Pedal Enclosures)

Here we have 2 effects pedal enclosures swirled in different colours. They were under coated white first then sanded ready for Swirling. First swirl was done in 2 colours Yellow & Black then the second enclosure was swirled in 4 colours.
After these 2 effects pedals enclosures were swirled in these beautiful colours they were both clear coated in a high gloss clear coat. Once dry all the electronics will be installed.

Do you sand it down between clear coats? How many clear coats do put on? How do you get a smooth professional finish for the finished product? I've seen some swirl jobs that came out looking bumpy and rough.
