There's been a lot of controversial MVP selections over the years, and today we get to the bottom of some of the worst. One's from Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Steve Nash, and Nikola Jokic, these are just a few of the "WORST MVPS"

Steve Nash went to 4 Conference Finals during the Spurs/Lakers dynasties. Those two teams won 10 championships within that time. Steve Nash beat Kobe twice in the playoffs, swept Tim Duncan's Spurs in 2010 and beat Dirk in 2005. He's proven himself plenty of times.

Averaging 30 in the NBA alone puts you as a GREAT player. Averaging a triple double is seen as an almost impossible feat. Westbroom did both in one season… Westbrook did over the course of an entire season what others would be proud to do one time. It’s no way ppl try and discredit his MVP.

The players of the league voted for the MVP. They voted for the player that brings the most value to the team, which is winning. Wilt averaging 50 and Oscar having a triple double season were secondary stats compared to winning in their minds. I guess previous generations held winning to a different standard back then. Or should I say, WAS the standard.

@@ForeskinTim Except if we're talking the past when he won his MVP, Westbrook was by far and large deserving of his award. No PG averages a triple double, much less for two and a half years. If Oscar Robertson can be talked about as one of the greatest, with a large part of that rhetoric being due to averaging a triple double in a season, then there's no way you can't put Russ into the fold, especially in his and Oscar's roles. Even more so on the past, Lakers played him completely out of position and often didn't let him start with the ball. I'm not huge on Lakers or Russ or anything, but even I could've told you by the way that he plays that he needs the ball to heat up. He didn't even do bad in his other teams. Clippers made him come off the bench because Harden was being a prude and he carried off the bench when everyone else rested (plus was a decent sub for them while any one of the guys were injured). Dude was otherwise good for his whole career. You could really only argue against him in playoffs series, but most people knew to lock specifically him down on his teams (where most of them were pretty bad, his Washington roster was ass outside of Beal, his Rockets roster was aged and really only had Harden, which screwed his ability to run with the ball, OKC post big-3 was an underwhelming roster at best). Denver just shares the ball with him down the court and lets him do his thing. Now he averages better stats than when he did everything himself. Sure, you can equate all his success to Jokic, but there's no denying he's still a top level player who always had it in him, and it's hard not to question the tactics from older teams around him looking back in retrospect now.

@Omegascithe dawg you've gotta condense your comments more because that's a short story as far as youtube replies go lol. It's highly debatable; but I watched the NBA intensely both seasons Nash won his MVPs and I thought he deserved the first one while being top 3 at best with Kobe and Lebron during the 05-06 season. Nash could have been replaced with an assist master that would have led his team to similar success in way you can't say for Kobes Lakers or Lebrons Cavs. Guess you could say Steve lacked that intangible Mamba mentality

Lebron should have won Allen Iverson. Shaq should have won Hakeem. David Robinson should have won. 81-82 Moses Malone. Would have given it to Julius Erving. 78-79 Moses Malone. The truth of this issue is that there should’ve been way more co-MVPs. Historically The voting seems always to factor in 2 things mainly: statistical(numbers), and Narrative( Basically who was the story of that regular season). A lot of times these 2 things don’t exist in the same player so why not just split the vote. The postseason is really where legacies are made so let the regular season be its own thing. This would also make the years where there are only one winner stand out more. 96 MJ, 00 Shaq, 13 LeBron, and 16 Steph MVP seasons are a whole different level than 05 Nash or 99 Malone or even 15 Stephs MVP seasons. The years where theres no debate will be historically regarded properly. Since 2000 this is how I’d have it: Actual MVP (Ties included) 2000- Shaq 2001- AI 2002-Duncan/Kidd 2003-Duncan 2004- KG 2005- Nash/Shaq 2006- Nash/ Kobe 2007- Dirk 2008- Kobe/CP3 2009- Lebron 2010- Lebron 2011- Rose/ LeBron 2012- Lebron 2013-Lebron 2014-KD 2015-Steph/Harden 2016- Steph 2017-Russ/ Harden 2018- Harden 2019- Giannis 2020- Giannis/ Lebron 2021- Jokic 2022-Jokic/Embiid 2023- Jokic 2024- Jokic/SGA It makes more sense this way imo. Nash still has 2 but so do Kobe and Shaq now. James Harden is objectively one of the greatest regular season players ever and would be properly recognized as such. Lebron now has 6 and Jokic still has his 4. The undisputed years are still undisputed but the disputed years. It also adds to rivalries which don’t really exist anymore and the game is suffering because of it . Imagine if Shaq and Kobe won MVP in the consecutive years after splitting up. Or 2 players winning it and then meeting in the finals. It’s a under talked about issue that’s always been easily fixable

Championships are the only thing that should have a “There can only be one winner” mentality. Steph won MVP in 2015 and They literally had a players awards right after where they gave it to Harden. That’s a clear disparity. The media should not be the end all be all on deciding who wins anymore because the don’t get it right enough. There should be a player vote and a media vote and if the 2 parties have different winners then that’s a tie. If the both have the same winner which they likely would in certain years then that player would win outright but. 96 MJ, 00 Shaq, 13 Lebron, 16 Steph for example there was no logical debate for anyone else. So they’d still all win it solely which actually gives those years more value than other weaker MVP seasons where multiple guys were worthy and theres no outright leader. Also if either the Media or players do feel theres a great player who doesn’t have it but has been deserving they can reward him without screwing an all time great for no other reason than “the other guys need to win sometimes too”. MJ and LeBron would both have more than anyone else which would be a more accurate reflection of what they meant to the league and they could still do the pity thing from time to time.

I really like this idea but I’ll take it a different route. Why does the nba not have an offensive player of the year. It’d give the same kind of resonance to those “built different seasons for example 16 Steph wins both OPOY and MVP but other season like 2019 Harden wins OPOY but Giannis wins mvp. It would allow many great season to not go so forgotten over time

The D. Rose hate really drives me insane. Not a single person on the planet thought the Bulls were going to be 1. a potential title contender, but also have the NUMBER 1 record in the entire NBA 2. To outplay Miami all 3 games in the regular season despite them having a significantly better roster, (Wade, Bosh, and LeBron) 3. The Bulls were a sub-par 41 win team the year prior. Who in their right mind thought for one min that they would improve to 62 wins altogether... like get tf outta here. Derrick Rose absolutely deserved that MVP award, and it was zero doubt behind it altogether. It's just upsetting that it was unfortunately the peak of his Rose's career. We never got a chance to witness what he really could've been past that season... dude was truly on pace to become not only the best point guard in NBA history, but also becoming one of the greatest players to ever lace them up on an NBA court.

4:41 Was a huge NBA fan during this era(back when one cable subscription got you access to almost every game) and I really never thought/got the vibe that Nash was any lesser for being a master of assists compared to point/rebound machines like Kobe or Shaq. It actually seems like players are accumulating more assists nowadays, and I think Nash deserves credit for influencing the evolution of the game. With all that said, Kobe got robbed of that MVP. I watched more lakers games than anything, and he was more a factor in elevating his team than Nash was. That's what the MVP award should be about.

Unpopular opinion but I think the MVP should come from the top 2 or 3 seeded teams. If your team is 6th seed you shouldn't win MVP no matter how good your stats are. They aren't transitioning to winning.

They should make sure they've put in some work before they name MVP. 😆 Embiid doesn't have the best reputation. One could argue it's only for one season though. Nash was one of the better MVPs. You have to watch him play to understand. They built the entire offense around him and it was successful. The guys on that team didn't go on to succeed elsewhere. Nash could turn any team into a winner during that time.

You didn’t even mention how Steve Nash was defensive liability. Kobe EASILY deserved it 2006. He was first team all DEFENSE while yk scoring 81 in a game 10 50 point games, out scoring the mavs BY HIMSELF through three quarters with 62 points while the spurs had 61. I don’t think this year is close at all
