The Ranger has been my favorite SAK for years! However I occasionally Carry my Handyman if I think I might have a need for the pliers.

Me too .. that extra layer for the pliers makes the Handyman bigger and heavier than the Ranger but I rock the Handyman whenever I go outside

I’ve carried some kind of SAK for years. In fact, for decades. Like everyone else, It all started with the Classic SD. Then for some time I carried the Alox Farmer X. Followed by the Climber, Huntsman. But now my favourite SAK edc is the Explorer. I really enjoy the explorer for its Phillips driver and the included magnifying lens. As my middle aged eyes start to weaken, the small lens often helps me to read the back of pill bottles at home or ingredients on a box at the grocery store. By the way, I use the parcel hook quite a bit. Pulling out tent stakes, pull tightening hockey skate laces, twisting wire and of course, lifting parcels tied with thin plastic strapping or twine. Good video. I’ve now subscribed.

Exactly right. What was your edc SAK before?

Carrying acually the Cybertool. It was an "upgrade" from the Ranger, that I had carried before for long years. Some good tweak for the Ranger was changing to "plus"-Scales adding the pen to the tweezers and toothpick. Then I learnt putting the sawing needle in between the tweezers, so that I do not have to remove the scales for using it. Then I found a little neodymium magnet ,that fit perfectly into the bottle opener. Now, adding the tiny screwdriver into the corkscrew and I was ready for city and woods. The Cybertool brought along some pliers and hex bits. Outfitted with the Ranger´s tweaks it now is my preferred EDC, so I have to admit that it´s fit into a business suit´s pockets is more challenging, than the Ranger was. :) Thanks for the video - the Ranger definitely is one of the most underrated SAKs IMHO

Well I have few SAKs and recently I started a work at home job so I figured I'd have my Swisschamp on my desk and pocket it when I need to go somewhere....but a few times I found myself going to the local shops without it, and I haven't left the house without a knife for years now! So it's back to clipping my Climber in my pocket and it's always on me, over here in the UK there is an ebay sellers who sells Vic replacement scales with a pocket clip screwed in, done very nicely too, for not much more than you'd pay for the scales without clip. In my watch pocket I have my LM Squirt for the rare occasions I need pliers or even less often a small file. Also that little 2D phillips on the Squirt is good for when the Vic can opener can't access a recessed Phillips screw. Obviously I wouldn't use any of those drivers at home but I like the options when I'm out. I'm in the city so I don't need a woodsaw in my EDC but when I go out into the country I have a few SAKs with a saw.

question? i have a knife just like this from about 1985. why does it say camping? i thought that was the model?
@greatamericansurvival15 күн бұрын
Most likely it’s a Picknicker, should have a serrated blade and a saw and few other cool features. Cool knife a lot of newer ones were labeled as camping, hiking, and not usually the camper or hiker.
