As an American I am always amazed at the quality of Swiss life. From the food, family life, transportation, construction and their respect for honesty. Love the farmer's Kiosks while hiking!

There are also fields with strawberries or flowers. You pick them yourself and then pay in a box. You find that all over the country. I buy my eggs, milk and veggies just at unattended farm shops for the freshness and quality. As for the jams "Zwetschgen" are prunes and "Quitten Gelee" is quince jelly.

Yes, the "sirup" is to be diluted with water. About 1 tbsp for 1 glass of water. This syrup is a hit with kids as they get a sweet drink but not a cola 😉 Like your concept of DIY food tour, something different yet familiar, and could be very helpful for those who'd be here for the first time. Love how much you're loving the experience! So glad you like the country. Thank you for the lovely and enthusiastic video. You have no idea what you're missing, and each of these regions is completey different from the Interlaken landscape. Thanks for watching and for asking a few questions! And after years of travel, it’s more sustainable for us to spend longer periods (like a month) in each place rather than move to a new location every week. 💻Plus we both work part-time so we try to maintain a live-cation balance. However we just started filming KZbin videos this summer, so unfortunately our channel is missing out on our previous years of travel! But there are plenty more videos to come in the future 😊

@@AplinsintheAlps it depend when in the fall you plan to come but the hike on the Way of St. James from Konstanz/Kreuzlingen to Weinfelden (with the schloss Ottenberg) is a nice hike. the most of the time you have the lake of konstanz in the back. nice in early fall with yellow red leaves and spring with the white apple trees. If you look on the thurgau-bodensee tourismus website you have many many hiking routes for example a napoleon route where you have many small castels on the road. The "Möhl" museum (from the applewinel is also at the lake in Egnach. And the chocolate Bernrain is located in Kreutzlingen. its possible to visit. in september/oktober we have many small "Oktoberfests" here and "Metzgete" (is a tradition that the pics get slauthed before winter and you celebrate this with many saucages, schnitzel, liver etc.) usualy placed in small traditional restaurants and Gasthäuser.

So...We're wondering if in all of your walking and hiking do you experience any ticks, mosquitoes or wasps? Although we live in a beautiful, mountainous region (nothing like the Alps but not bad for the mid west) the ticks are so bad that we hardly venture out the front door from April until the first frost. It's terrible here!
@AplinsintheAlps2 жыл бұрын
Oh this is a great question! The mosquitoes looooove Jana (unfortunately). We have experienced plenty of those, although not nearly as bad as we have in Tennessee. We have not had any trouble with ticks, and there are lots of bees to pollinate the wildflowers but they don’t tend to bother us much. We will probably buy bug spray this year to help with the mosquitos.
@Motherof6pack2 жыл бұрын
@@AplinsintheAlps That's good to know! Are the mosquitoes bad during the full hiking season or worse at certain times? For example, bad during spring and summer and not so bad in the fall.
@AplinsintheAlps2 жыл бұрын
One very general observation we've made is that mosquitos tend to be a problem south of the Alps, but not nearly as much north of the Alps. So we see a lot of them in Italy and southern Switzerland, but they really aren't much of an issue around Interlaken. They are around but really don't come out until twilight/dusk. Hope this helps!
@Motherof6pack2 жыл бұрын
@@AplinsintheAlps Very helpful. So far I've noticed that it seems cheaper to stay in the Interlaken/Lauterbrunnen/Grindelwald area. Is this correct?
@AplinsintheAlps2 жыл бұрын
The valley areas will definitely be cheaper (in general) than the mountain villages. But Interlaken is likely also cheaper than the other two you mentioned. Unless you plan to spend all of your time in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, Interlaken makes for a great transportation hub and has way more grocery store options if you're looking to save money on food. HINT: Wilderswil is a nice option between Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen. Feels much more like a locals' village!
