I picked one of these up about 1.5 years ago (per your recommendation, in fact). Because of its clean elegance, it’s probably the one that makes non-bayo people light up the most when I show them my collection.

I almost bought one of the rifles back in the 80s. All I have is one of the bayonets. They were dirt cheap 25 years ago.

I paid £10 for mine back in the early 2000,s not bad for a stainless steel bayonet . The only bayonets cheaper at the time were the no.4 pig stickers

The blade is not stainless, it has an aluminum coating to prevent rust. These flooded the US surplus market starting back in the 90s. I bought one in the 90s for like $20 US. Later around 2010? There was a American mail order company that sells a lot mil surplus called, the Sportsman's Guide that was selling them for $15 or 3 for $36 if I remember right. They've gone up considerably, ($50-$60 on ebay). I bought 3 back then and shortened one of them, put a micarta handle on it. It's quite the handsome dagger. The blade is still like 7" long. I still have 2 of them. None of them came with the frog.

BTW, Carl Zeigler's sites are no longer up, unfortunately...

That's a shame, we have lost too many great websites in the last few years

@@pointynotsharp It IS a shame. I am fortunate to have received one of Carl's bayonets. Not from him, but from his collection that was bought after he passed. I recognized it before his site was taken down. Had no idea it was one of Carl's until I happened on the pic on his site by chance.

NSW, but I used to live in Townsville. Seems all of the collectors are in WA though

@@pointynotsharp are you just into bayonets or blades as well.?
@pointynotsharp9 ай бұрын
@@saiga12commander mainly bayonets, but the occasional knife slips in

One of my favorite bayonets also, not withstanding not terribly historical or militarily significant. Leave it to the Swiss however, to leave their mark on the bayonet world... Zk

one of the worst bajonetts ever. soft steel, chrome plated, not sharpened from the factory, heavy and bulky to carry, i had to use that crap in the military and switched to the eickhorn 77. one would think the 1990 one would be better but again a crap, rounded off point, chisel ground not sharp blade and to smoot grip. garbage.

Interesting to hear, I've never heard an account from anyone who was actually issued one. Just checked out your channel and subscribed by the way
@uhoh44809 ай бұрын
How do you recommend sharpening them? I got one recently and I don’t wanna mess it up.
@pointynotsharp9 ай бұрын
@uhoh4480 don't sharpen them, they are purpose made for thrusting not cutting. The material will not hold an edge and if you do try it will spoil the finish and value
