As a retired operative my top-most priorities have always been reliability and accuracy. So I went Eco-Drive. Of course I love mechanical timepieces and own a few of them myself, but when the sh!t hits the fan you’d wish for a solar quartz.

Another great video. I tend to think COSC is just another aspect of luxury branding. I quite like the fact the NH movements are reliable, and if they fail, you can replace them for $50 (as opposed to $1,000 for a regular service. And ultimately, if precision matters, buy quartz. If it really matters, buy thermo compensated quartz.

I could care less about big name Swiss brands or whether a watch is a homage. A lot of watches these days, including Swiss brands are a homage of another brand, whether past or present. I buy what my eye likes, not blindly, I research specs. I also could care less about Swiss movements. Especially when you have to have one serviced. That being said, I have a few Swiss watches, several Chinese watches including San Martin, Steeldive, Seestern, Proxima, and Erebus. I own them because I wanted them. Buy what you like, wear what you like. That's my philosophy.

I really don't want this to sound racist in any way. Be objective without emotion. I've been studying watches for 2 years now. I'm a watch whore so to speak. I had no idea this stuff was going on. I'm thinking...What makes a Rolex a Rolex vs a Timex. I understand heritage, movements, so to speak but what I really see is this idea of elitism by convincing the masses that in order to walk in upper class societies of so called "white supremacy " circles you have to live how we live and "we" set the standards of beauty and elegance based solely on elevated pricing. Elite white men in European circles have not made a better watch perse than the Chinese or Japanese but they priced the watches above a price where the average man cannot afford it thus making it elite to own. Because of this we see KZbin creators of all ilks propping up the Elitest storyline that was created by Swiss"ness". Do you think a Rolex that costs $11,000 is worth that because the Elites have convinced us that they are the standard of living on this earth and the poached eggs that they eat at the hands of their butler taste and are worth more than the eggs served to Commoners? Good video sir. Your observation was fair.

@@TheMcfreeze thanks for watching and the input. You make some interesting points. There is certainly an artificial limitation on the luxury brands to keep the exclusivity and value high - much higher than the sum of their parts. But I do feel like we’re stepping into a new world. Every year that passes and things becoming more and more accessible (Ali express purchases arriving in a few days now) and people are recognising the marketing fluff of luxury and the actual quality the far east are now producing, effectively making the monopoly tumble.

Damn man, are you filming your video on a watch aswell? Cant even appreciate the nice dial on the San Martin. Also forget swiss big names, china and smaller producers is where value lies. And also, if your talking about features the San Martin clearly has more hands to read time and even date of off. Its automatic so the big power reserve is mostly irrelevant and a (maybe) more durable and reliable movement is not a real feature.
