tbh if they just have backwards compatibility and bring out patches for the big games like botw/totk that make them consistent 60 fps then they already have a large playerbase through that

3DS is still pretty underrated though, I hope they lean more in that direction since the Switch is both their only current console (no home + handheld) and pretty boring in either department compared to the charm and interesting stuff of previous gens. If they don't, who will? The rest of AAA can't be expected to let their studios even make games or stay open after making good games, let alone experiment or innovate with hardware! Besides, with the comparatively poor sales and transfer from gen 8 to gen 9 due to both Playstation and Xbox's model of pushing pixels collapsing into diminishing returns and inflating prices, I don't think it's really ever possible for Nintendo to fall into obscurity again.

A point I wanted to make but didn't have time for in the video is that I think Nintendo can absolutely disappear again in the hardware space. Not likely due to competition with Xbox and Playstation, more with things like the Steamdeck and alternatives. But that is only if the game output in below average imo

@@itsWiiland I don't know...Handheld PCs are an entirely different, much more niche and technical market, let alone the fact that only a couple million out of Steam's 132 million monthly active users decided to transfer over to a Steam Deck (and they're not even sold in stores, which completely removes the casual market of all console players from the equation). It's ultimately another way for PC gamers to play their existing library, not really build a new one, at least from my experience. Meanwhile, there's plenty of people who have Nintendo consoles on the side just for the exclusives, regardless of whatever other solutions they have (Xbox, PS5, SD, PC, retro handheld, etc.). With how many people bought Xboxes and PS5s despite what I see as far, far 'below average' game output, I don't think it'll really be that much of a problem anymore, especially with the rumored specs. Instead of a hodgepodge of PS3-performing ports, cloud versions and no ports, I think the successor shouldn't have any of those issues.
