This performance is on point! I've watched this video several times because Switch is my group! The lead singer has been with them over 20 years and his voice is beautiful. His falsetto is right in there. Look at the crowd, they were on their feet the whole time. Akili was handpicked by Tommy DeBarge and Tommy is the one who convinced him to join the group. I don't know what ya'll are listening to but he hits those notes with ease, grace and beauty, all while performing his butt off. The haters in some of these comments need to go somewhere. Great show! Great performance! Keep it up Switch!

When Chico married Janet, I was like : what do they have in common? I latter learnt that both families were Jehovah Witnesses & I also discovered that their arch rivals ( The OSMOND BROTHERS) were Mormons. The media never told us that because they knew that their target audience was Baptist & those theologies were frowned upon with skepticism. They did not realize that by being honest with us that divide could have been bridged through the 🎶

Love and respect to the original members. But there are some of the most talented singers in America standing in line at “The Voice, American Idol, Call Rodney Poe just for 1 show. Or Mark Middleton “Time Will Reveal” Blackstreet cover.

Mark's voice is NOT what it was. He still sounds decent but the high notes he was known for are long gone. They don't need any other singer. Akili's got it.

I could not disagree more! He sounds great! Switch is one of the only groups where all the living original members are still with the same group and there aren't 2 or 3 Switches out there. The original living members here are Greg Williams, Eddie Fluellen, and guitarist Michael McGloiry. Tommy and Bobby passed away and Phillip just wasn't able to join this show but he's with them most of the time. Tommy DeBarge and the original members handpicked Akili and he's been with them over 20 years eating those notes for lunch. He hits those notes easily and this sounds great.
@Nostaljack
@Nostaljack 23 күн бұрын
Just...no. Akili is hitting all the notes. He's as close to Bobby as you'll get. As for what he looks like, who cares about that? If he can get the job done, he can get the job done...and he CAN get the job done.

If you think it needs more bass then that's the sound engineers fault. I was there and I've seen Switch many times, even before a Tommy died and Akili and Tommy would sing all the old stuff Tommy would sing with his brother. This sounds great.

Are we watching the same show? He's hitting those notes easily, while dancing and eating them like their brownies. He makes it look easy the way he's hitting those notes and dancing. In fact, he hits hem, holds them and then does a run higher than the original note to prove the point. What are you watching! Signed, a true Switch fan.

Yeah, we will surely agree to disagree on this one. I watched the video of El's performance at the same festival and his sound is so much louder, and richer, with his voice booming through the music and with his whole band having a much more balanced sound. THAT IS ALL THE SOUND MAN and the fact Switch performed FIRST on this festival without a sound check and El performed almost last, 7 hours after the first act. The first group, Switch, does not have the benefit of a sound check and the sound people have to try and figure out the sound of everything on the fly with the first group. It's why you can barely hear them in this video and he isn't loud over the band even though he's eating those notes up and crushing it. By the later groups, they've had 8 hours of singing groups to figure it out, have the volumes louder, and have the whole overall sound sounding a lot better. I agree that this sounds itself is not in the same league as the sound for the headliners 8 hours later (El and Babyface) but the performance is awesome! We will surely agree to disagree about that.

@@JuneSwan-qt8cy now that you explained about the sound, that makes sense. I wasn't aware that they were the first act on the bill. Shame that they fell victim to poor sound and mix.

I was there. Switch also didn't get a sound check. I know that because Jodeci was the headliner and their sound check went so late that Jodeci's band was still sound checking when the crowd came in right before they called Switch to the stage. So Switch never got a sound check. They literally went out there raw with the sound people and engineers having just plugged in their instruments before they just went on stage first. But did you hear Jodeci! GAWD their sound was fat. It sure helps to be the headliner and get a sound check vs being the opening act without even a sound check.

How many of them are the from the original SWITCH? Why they always replace💡skin lead wit a 💡lead? This karaoke lead an’t no Chico De barge. His tenor is weak & other members sound like side men pick up musicians. They SWITCH in name only👎

@JuneSwan-qt8cy
@JuneSwan-qt8cy 25 күн бұрын
The sound system was fine overall but Switch didn't get the benefit of the sound system. They didn't get a sound check (because Jodeci's sound check ran over) so the music and instruments weren't mixed at all and the lead vocals weren't mixed over the musicians properly. No falsetto singer could outsing the volume of live musicians outdoors. Period. But listen to the video of El from that festival. As the co-headliner with a sound check and a banging mix 8 hours after the opener, El's falsetto vocals are loud and clear and mixed on top of his band perfectly. Akili didn't get that benefit at all.
