I'll never forget my senior year of high school (1998) when someone installed Quake on the computer lab network and we'd go all out battling each other. One of my favorite memories of that time.

Quake II is literally nostalgia incarnate for me. I grew up with this game. The Edge is still the greatest multiplayer deathmatch map of all time.

Having now played it. It's an excellent port. I would prefer they added more information when you load a save. Whether it's from the base game, or the n64 version. I'm going to get them mixed up because I'm enjoying both versions.

This is how you do a remaster of an old classic game! Include all of the content, smooth out the gameplay and visuals, a bit of qol updates and a very reasonable price.

I’m glad that the remaster handles both gamepad and kbm inputs at the same time as I can comfortably use gyro aiming and the trackpad on my Steam Deck without remapping entirely to kbm.

Yeah, was a surprise (though, rumored) release for QuakeCon. They did the same thing with the Quake remaster as well. Was not expecting a message from Bethesda/Nightdive Studios to go and take a look

I'm seriously glad they added in the missing muzzle flashes. I could never fathom why the original game never had them.

There were mods quickly to add them back, and it was clear why immediately - they didn’t look great at the time. They look as good as they do now thanks to the additional horsepower and graphical effects. Remember this game came out in 1997, this game was pushing graphics cards at the time already.

The very first first-person game I ever played multiplayer over LAN at an internet cafe, when I was 8. Absolutely blew my mind that my friend was controlling a character I could see on my screen. And multiplayer gaming was never the same

The music at the end is nothing to do with quake, it’s a band called Sightless in shadow and the put up versions of their tracks without vocals for videos! Well worth checking out

i was born in 2002 so i never got to experience 90s games. i got a switch lite a few weeks ago and bought quake 1 not that long ago bc of the bethesda sale. the game is so damn fun i love retro shooter feel. i will definitely be getting quake 2 but should i fully complete quake 1 before getting 2 or does it not matter?

I'm so glad that LAN play was kept in this enhanced version of the game. I don't understand why it was removed from Quake Remastered (Why would you remove the feature that made Quake so popular in the first place?), but the fact that it's kept here is a huge plus in my eyes. I already had Quake 2 on the PC through GOG, but I got this on the Switch because I love Quake II (it's my favorite game in the Quake franchise). I was curious to see if I could do cross platform LAN play, and that didn't work. I did manage to do co-op between the Switch and my PC via the online option (why I have to do it that way, I don't know). Oddly enough, I picked Quake II N64 for the co-op mode and it actually launched. I thought it wouldn't work when I finished the first level and the game froze on my PC, but I tried it again and it went to the second level. I'll be playing this later on and enjoying its contents. I never played through the expansions, but I had tried... I think it was The Reckoning, and it was so buggy that I couldn't finish it. Hopefully any such bugs are gone. This is very much worth the price. I'm so happy that the Switch now has Quake II.

Death matches with bots.. closest thing to infinite internet free old school multiplayer like Perfect Dark, which may never come to the Switch. Even if it did, it wouldn't have this much polish.
