@PaxAlotin8 күн бұрын
@@ZKRblackhawks Yes --- I know that. But when it comes to integrating the new version of Cinnamon - it relies on the Debian cycle - not the Ubuntu one. I checked and was told by someone who works on LMDE that the updated Cinnamon won't be added until LMDE-7. That's scheduled for summer 2025.

Does anyone know if touchpad gestures work on Cinnamon Wayland? Or is it still exclusive to touchegg on X11?
@Priimerra5 күн бұрын
I have tried cinnamon on arch, one week ago. There was no gestures on wayland. The whole wayland sessions is stil labeled experimental sadly.
@electricalbatross57975 күн бұрын
@@Priimerra This always gets me a lot of heat, but I am NOT changing my stance on this; Experimental status should not affect the implementation of touchpad gestures. Literally every other wayland DE has them. It's oftentimes among the first things that get added in. Cinnamon could literally use GNOME's implementation and it would work fine. If we can get touchpad gestures on X11 (a feat I didn't even think possible until people started doing it), I don't see what the hesitation is to get it running on a display server that was literally made to support it.
@Priimerra3 күн бұрын
@@electricalbatross5797 No. It is not that simple at all. In Wayland you have to have compositor. Each de has its own compositor, and that think controls many things. Like gestures. This is Linux tho and you CAN change compositor to other one. But as far as I know the ones that are not tied to any de, do not have gestures implemented. This is sad to many but mint team is focused on desktop. Laptops are far far afterthough. It is their distro they can do whatever they want. If you want to use great gestures on Wayland but that is not heavy de try ElementaryOS. It has the same base as mint and their Wayland implementation is perfect. Writing this I have remebered that there is Niri compositor. It is Wayland wm/compositor an I thin it has gestures.
@electricalbatross57973 күн бұрын
@@Priimerra fair points, I completely forgot about how compositors would affect that.

Still my favourite Distro, and this Beta runs fine, even on an old Surface Pro 3 of 2015 vintage. The only "down" comments I'd have are rounded corners at the top and square corners on the bottom of a window is just half-baked and weird. Also the fancy "dialogue" boxes are just fluff, and if you are going this route, why not the log-in box as well?

It looks like Linux is at war on "redundant" and "unnecessary" file systems. BCacheFS, ZFS and RaiserFS are virtually dropped under various excuses. Moreover, now there is a "regression" that makes the use of NTFS troublesome. A passable excuse for dropping it as well. What's remained? The standard ext234 and BTRFS that corrupts its RAID volumes.
@javabeanz854910 күн бұрын
BCache has a developer problem, and was suspended from updates in one kernel version. Reiser is out of date, the developer is in prison, and is onboard with the removal. And if most of the users are NOT using ZFS, why waste time with it?

Trashing a Windows partition? I call that a bonus and a WIN.
@justliberty40729 күн бұрын
The Windows-trashing-Linux problem is, for those systems where I still 'need' Windows not and then, why I install them on separate drives. This is so convenient. You can just ignore Windows until you need it (or more likely need to update it...) and switch via the BIOS. Once you set the boot drive order to your current requirements, it becomes either a Linux or Windows machine, as you desire.

I have a laptop with a 2 GB SSD with W10, and Linux Mint. I have no issues with the EFI partition. I think once there was a warning, telling that the filesystem is corrupted for the EFI partition (even the boot process was fine), I ran filesystem repair, and is OK.

hope flatpaks gets massively updated as well for LM22.1.. there are so many missing apps in LM22 compared to LM21.3
@deultima9 күн бұрын
That's because in version 22 they added a new feature that hides Flatpak Apps that are not officially released by the software developer. If you want to see all the Flatpak Apps like in 21.3 go into the Preferences in the Software Manager and toggle on the option "Show unverified Flatpaks" And you will once again have access to the entire Flathub Store.

You'd think that either the Xbox or the PS5, since everything connects via USB, give the user the option to game with a keyboard instead of the standard d-pad controller. Then you could run AAA games on the console and 'feel" like you're gaming on a PC. This could be an option to get away from Windows.
