You are so lucky friend, where was it? We had a 99X here in Atl at one point I think, getting so old I can't remember for sure. As I'm watching because I'm trying to figure this out on guitar, I can't help but notice that nobody is really moving there! He's daring everyone to move, but lets face it, these guys are so great and this song is so deep and special that everyone is mesmerized by the pure beauty of this moment!

What are people talking his voice sounding bad? It sounds Amazing, Great Job Jon. The only reason it may not sound too good for some of you people is: 1) you listen to stupid singers who only use autotune for everyone of their performances or 2) you think he doesn't sound like he does on recording, which he can't because he had to use his inside voice and sing with a softer tone with the acoustics, so overall he can't be as loud reaching his average notes, in which, so what? I honestly think I prefer his vocals here more than on the studio version. Overall, And Once Again, Great Job Jon. Love Switchfoot(:

I think its largely cause this song is pretty much based around open strings on a guitar and he doesn't' like down-tuning his guitar every time to play it. He has trouble with a lot of the higher notes in his songs in E major live. He strains them all.
@Seth9562613 жыл бұрын
@Krisselann I don't think he's having trouble singing as far as his voice goes. Playing guitars and singing is one of the hardest things a human can do. Gotta think of the words, hit the right pitches, sing at the right rhythms, control four/five fingers on the fret board, and strum at different rhythms.

He is only having trouble because your have to SING OUT.. and right now he is doing an acoustic version and sometimes the soft music makes you not wanna jump in with your loud voice so it comes out this way ..Great band and listen to other recordings they do great its just sometimes hard to use your outside voice in a inside voice area lol

Thus is an acoustic performance your vocals are going to be much different then when your not playing in acoustic. His voice is perfect here for the tone of the guitar he's playing.

@XxiHeart Well notice there I never said that he "sucks". In fact I have a lot of respect for John's writing ability and voice tone, even though I am not a fan of switchfoot. The point the other guy was making is that how you perform on stage doesn't matter, and he was being pretty immature about it. I am not saying Switchfoot sucks because this is a bad live performance, but that because John is a professional musician he doesn't get away with "it's too hard to do" excuse.
@Seth9562612 жыл бұрын
Ouch. I'm a professional musician/singer/guitarist/songwriter and it's tough for me to play and sing at the same time. I don't think he's having any problems with any of this except maybe the higher "move" notes as far as staying in his chest voice. I simply stated that for some people, it's tough to do both.

@Beagsim10 It is NOT very easy for me. 4 years of guitar and 6 years of singing. You can't just go do it. It takes practice for those it doesn't come naturally to and by practice I mean A LOT of practice. I still don't have it down. I can barely sing and play one song together. And I say that because, like I said, gotta think of the words, hit the right pitches, sing at the right rhythms, control four/five fingers on the fret board, and strum at different rhythms. Knowing it by heart helps too.

it's actually harder to play drums and sing at the same time. I play guitar and keyboard and sing for two bands and it's pretty easy and fun. and it was pretty easy to learn. And frankly, and modestly, it's actually easier to sing with an instrument :D it's probably a nurturing thing, it makes you feel more relaxed. "one of the hardest things a human can do"...I dont see why you would say that. People! It's easy, just GO DO IT!
@StarHaven642 жыл бұрын
Some aspects are incredibly easy when playing guitar and piano while singing...others are seemingly impossible until done so I have no idea what you mean by its easy. I do somewhat get what you mean how it can be easier at times to sing with an instrument, I agree. But that's not always the case man.

@Seth95626 Man not to burst your bubble, but that is his actual job to do those things professionally. Like you know how you do the same thing 9 - 5, this guy supposedly plays those same songs everyday. When you're a payed musician, you don't get away with an excuse that's too hard. You either do it or not. As for it being "hardest thing a human can do"...are you crazy? I am a musician, and there's an infinite amount of jobs far harder then playing rhythm guitar and singing at the same time.
@StarHaven642 жыл бұрын
You must not have gotten very far as a musician with that mentality lol? There's a reason Switchfoot is where they are today!
