Ryan Tedder is usually the one writing and molding other into what he wants them to sound like, on this iconic joint, he crawled perfectly into Jon's mold! I love that he didn't tinker with a classic!

I've been debating this since hearing it. I was so blown away by the other artists' renditions that I'm bummed that we didn't get that from the brilliant Ryan Tedder. At the same time, I imagine that Switchfoot was completely formative to Ryan, and likely this song over any other, he probably thought it would be almost sacrilegious to change this one. I don't know...still struggling. Would love to hear a true Tedder version of this song.

I'm so overwhelmed right now with emotion as this is probably my all time favorite album and song ever! , I've been waiting for this one to be released and I have to say I'm blown away, I was unsure if this song could bring the emotions of what the original could but it did and even more, this song is so powerful and holds so many special memories to me that I can't not cry listening to it and Ryans voice pairs with this song so beautifully to.

Hot take: this is a miss. Was extremely excited for this one and it's literally the "Our Version" with Ryan singing a very small portion of it. Some of the comments say "Don't mess with a classic", but Jon Bellion did that and absolutely crushed it. Ryan Tedder is a wonderful writer and musician, so I'm bummed that he literally did nothing but sing. Almost as if he performed it with Jon on Smule or something lol. Fortunately it's one of the great rock songs of the 2000's, so it's still enjoyable to listen to, but as a cover, it's a not-so-beautiful letdown. I felt gross typing that but I'm leaving it 😂
@hartfartpoptart Жыл бұрын
Ya, I think it still sounds great, but Ryan could have really done some interesting things with it.
@brooke9225 Жыл бұрын
Maybe just maybe switchfoot wanted to feature Ryans voice on the song and that's it. Maybe they didn't want to have Ryan create a whole new version of the song. Ryan as the feature on the song is literally just doing what was asked of him
@elijahsch929 Жыл бұрын
I guess anything could've happened, but it seems odd that they would only have that request of him and no one else on the album. Like every other track is remade as if the artist covering it was the original writer. So it would be weird to let everyone else do that EXCEPT Ryan Tedder. It just goes against the "our version" theme of the rest of the record.
@elijahsch929 Жыл бұрын
Agreed, Ryan sings it well. Just a missed opportunity imo.
@witmer77753 Жыл бұрын
Before seeing your comment here, I wrote a similar comment, just less sharp on another comment above. I do feel a bit "letdown" that Ryan didn't attempt to make his own version of this song, though I wonder if this song was simply too formative for Ryan and he couldn't bring himself to change it too much. Seems like a missed opportunity. Tedder is just too talented for us to not get his true take on the song.
