*LYRICS* Fumbling his confidence And wondering why the world has passed him by Hoping that he's bet for more than arguments And failed attempts to fly Fly We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? Somewhere we live inside Somewhere we live inside We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? Somewhere we live inside Dreaming about providence And whether mice or men have second tries Maybe we've been living with our eyes half open Maybe we're bent and broken Broken We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? Somewhere we live inside Somewhere we live inside We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? Somewhere we live inside We want more than this world's got to offer We want more than this world's got to offer We want more than the wars of our fathers And everything inside screams for second life Yeah We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? We were meant to live for so much more Have we lost ourselves? We were meant to live (we were meant to live) We were meant to live

And that is exactly what makes this song timeless... that the fact that you can interpret it any way that you want... I don't see enough musicians enowadays, pouring their guts out and giving actual meaning.
@davidcounter4866 Жыл бұрын
It's run of the mill guitar riffs backing a chain of lyrics composed entirely of a sequence of cliches. Of course you can interpret it in a lot of ways. Newsflash - even the worst of songs can be interpreted many ways...that is as far from being the hallmark of a great song as they are from filling a stadium venue.

You guys have done a tremendous favor to so many lives by putting your voices out there when you didn't have to and could have been rejected for doing so. All of your haters have still heard your message, and I pray that the seeds you plant bloom fiercly. You guys are beautiful. Your parents are beautiful. Why are Christians so self promoting? Why don't they promote the messages (like switchfoot) instead of Jesus's name. The idea you need to believe in Jesus for salvation is sign of a megalomaniac. If he was truly a humble servant he would not need people to worship him, but the ideas themselves.

according to Wikipedia Lyrically this song was inspired by T. S. Eliot's poem "The Hollow Men." About the song, singer/writer Jon Foreman has said, "Maybe the kid in the song is me, hoping that I'm meant for more than arguments and failed attempts to fly. Something deep inside of me yearns for the beautiful, the true. I want more than what I've been sold; I want to live life."[3] According to Foreman, this song was also inspired by U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For."[4] This track refers to C.S. Lewis's novel "Out of the Silent Planet" with the lyric "Maybe we're bent and broken." It also refers to John Steinbeck's novel Of Mice and Men, in the lyric "Dreaming about Providence and whether mice or men have second tries." The song is well known for its main guitar riff, positive lyrics and overall heavy aggressive sound."
